Trump pushed to close El Paso border, told admin officials to resume family separations

Source: CNN

Washington (CNN)President Donald Trump has been pushing to reinstate broader family separation policies and sought to close the US-Mexico border at El Paso, Texas, as his conflict with Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen reached a boiling point.

Two Thursdays ago, in a meeting at the Oval Office with top officials -- including Nielsen, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, top aides Jared Kushner, Mercedes Schlapp and Dan Scavino, White House counsel Pat Cipollone and more -- the President, according to one attendee, was "ranting and raving, saying border security was his issue."

Senior administration officials say that Trump then ordered Nielsen and Pompeo to shut down the port of El Paso the next day, Friday, March 22, at noon. The plan was that in subsequent days the Trump administration would shut down other ports.
Nielsen told Trump that would be a bad and even dangerous idea, and that the governor of Texas, Republican Greg Abbott, has been very supportive of the President.

She proposed an alternative plan that would slow down entries at legal ports. She argued that if you close all the ports of entry all you would be doing is ending legal trade and travel, but migrants will just go between ports.
According to two people in the room, the President said: "I don't care."

because of gerrymandering. By the time this has been fixed(if it ever is), he and others like him will never be held accountable. Now wonder how it came to be... if you truly care about the country. Who on our side was in power, and why did they not see this coming?

My family historically and personally have been victims of this. Be wary of the "Play Nicey Nicey" crowd.

Senate. Gubernatorial and Presidential elections are not affected by Gerrymandering as they are statewide and national elections. BTW what do you mean by Democrats playing nice? They have subpoenaed the Mueller Report, the have requested Trumps taxes from the IRS, they have subpoenaed the Whitehouse for documents related to the issuance of security clearances. The House could impeach Trump but then what, do you think for a second that McConnell would even allow a vote to happen in the Senate, nevermind the 67 votes needed for conviction. The Democrats are doing everything they can.

Nothing they will be able to campaign on is going to happen for them in the foreseeable future. The overall feeling in this country is bad and Democrats will be able to campaign for anything that will bring us out of it - even if it something with minimal substance and high on abstraction like 'Hope' was in 2008.

Senators serve six years, and I'm not sure there are enough vulnerable R seats up for re-election in 2020 to cut into their majority.

But it doesn't affect Senatorial races -- you can't gerrymander an entire state.

Voter suppression - yes. But not gerrymandering.

In order for a Senate race to be gerrymandered, they'd have to redraw state lines. That's obviously not possible. Your concern about gerrymandering in Senate races is absolutely not legitimate. Not even a little bit. Why are you doubling down when you clearly made a mistake?
