Trump tax returns: Mnuchin says Treasury will 'follow the law'

Source: CBS

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin says it's his department's "intent to follow the law" in responding to the request by House Democrats to release President Trump's tax returns.

During a budget hearing on Capitol Hill, Mnuchin was asked by Rep. Mike Quigley (D-Illinois) if he would be involved in the decision on whether to release the returns in light of a request by the House Ways and Means Committee. Quigley cited a "longstanding (IRS) delegation order that the secretary does not get involved in taxpayer specific manners."

Mnuchin said he was "not surprised" by the question and said it was "better we get this out."

"I want to acknowledge we did receive the request and as I've said in the past when we received the request, it would be reviewed by our legal department, and it is our intent to follow the law. And that is in the process of being reviewed," Mnuchin stated.

The law says Congress has the right to review these in a closed session. This law was passed in the 1920s in response to the Teapot Dome scandal.

Edited, you think? Altered, you say? Reconnoitered, you think? Redacted, perhaps?

When these fools come out and say the exact opposite of what they’ve been saying in the past, you know it stinks to high heaven. Here, let me offer an example. Trump: “I’m in favor of the entire Mueller report being made public.” Do ya really think so? I sure as horse pucky don’t.

This administration is covered in so much cow do-do that I can’t wait to read the book about what the heck went on that hasn’t been told.

I’ve chosen to clean up my act and use slightly to majorly stupid substitutions in some of my posts, having been slapped on the wrist a few weeks ago. So, have a good laugh on me.

It's a little too late to "follow the law" after refusing to "follow the law" since the formal request was made.

Is Munchkin wanted to "follow the law" Treasury would have already delivered Trump's tax returns to Congressional Republicans on the Ways and Means Committee.

He likes his lifestyle of the rich and famous far too much to risk even a day in the federal pen.

So when the people who actually CREATE "the law" tell you to give them something, then you do it. It's that easy.

said in his confirmation hearing?

Did anyone ask Mnuchin how he (Treasury legal office) interprets the current law?

15. It's also what Reich wing justice appointments say about Roe v. Wade.

The exact words are,"It's settled law."

To put it into perspective, Plessy v. Ferguson (segregated schools were okay so long as the white schools and colored schools offered equal education) was "settled law" until Brown v. Board of Education, in which Plessy was overturned by a unanimous 9-0 decision of the Court, which stated that "separate is never equal."

The Supreme Court can always find a way to change its mind
