North Korea rejects Pompeo from nuclear dialogue: KCNA

SEOUL (Reuters) - North Korea no longer wants U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo involved in nuclear talks, calling for someone who “is more careful and mature in communicating”, state media said on Thursday.

The official KCNA news agency also said, quoting Kwon Jong Gun, a senior official at the North’s foreign ministry, that “no one can predict” the situation on the Korean peninsula if the United States does not abandon the “root cause” that compelled Pyongyang to develop its nuclear program, without elaborating.

3. International PR. Meetings w/Pompeo - no coverage for Kim. That's the issue.

I have no doubt Pompeo is ineffective. He is, after all, a member of the Trump admin.

I think the real issue here is meetings with Trump get international press coverage and raise the stature of Kim Jong-Un. Meetings with Pompeo do not.

Kim is like Trump. He needs the attention. In his case though, it's a little more important. He needs to keep convincing his people he's a player on the international stage.
