Jeremy Corbyn to skip Trump state dinner in UK

Source: The Hill

British Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn said Friday that he will skip an upcoming state dinner with President Trump. "[British Prime Minister] Theresa May should not be rolling out the red carpet for a state visit to honour a President who rips up vital international treaties, backs climate change denial and uses racist and misogynist rhetoric," Corbyn said in a statement.

He added that maintaining a good relationship with the U.S. does not "require the pomp and ceremony of a State Visit" and expressed disappointment in May's willingness to "kowtow" to the Trump administration.

Other prominent British politicians, including House of Commons Speaker John Bercow and Liberal Democrat party leader Sir Vince Cable, have also declined invitations to the state dinner, according to the BBC.

The White House announced Tuesday that Trump had accepted Queen Elizabeth II's invitation for a state visit in June. He is scheduled to participate in a meeting with British Prime Minister May and attend D-Day anniversary ceremonies commemorating the Allied invasion of Europe during World War II.

Watch Prince Phillip have a medical emergency the day of the dinner, causing the Queen also to excuse herself. Trump may end up sitting at the table alone with Melania.

Prince Phillip is not in good shape and it could happen...or it could be a convenient excuse.

Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson

In June 2016, Nick Clegg described him as "like Donald Trump with a thesaurus",[474] while fellow Conservative MP Kenneth Clarke described him as a "nicer Donald Trump"[475] and EU official Martin Selmayr described the potential election of Johnson and Trump to the leadership of their respective countries as a "horror scenario".[476] However, Johnson has criticised Trump on a number of occasions before Trump became President.[477][478] He has announced his admiration of Trump since Trump became President of the United States, though he still disagrees with many of Trump's policies.[479][480]
