Congressional Democrats' emoluments lawsuit targeting President Trump's private business can proceed

Democrats in Congress can move ahead with their lawsuit against President Trump alleging that his private business violates the Constitutions ban on gifts or payments from foreign governments, a federal judge ruled Tuesday.
The decision in Washington from U.S. District Judge Emmet G. Sullivan adopted a broad definition of the anti-corruption ban and could set the stage for Democratic lawmakers to begin seeking information from the Trump Organization. The Justice Department can try to delay or block the process by asking an appeals court to intervene. The lawsuit is one of two landmark cases against Trump relying on the once-obscure emoluments clauses of the Constitution.
In a case brought in Maryland by the attorneys general of D.C. and Maryland, Justice Department lawyers representing the president have succeeded in temporarily blocking subpoenas for financial records and other documents related to Trumps D.C. hotel. The congressional case, brought by about 200 Democrats, extends beyond the hotel and provides a potential new avenue for the presidents challengers to gain access to a broader array of Trumps closely held finances.
In a 48-page opinion, the judge refused the request of the presidents legal team to dismiss the case and rejected Trumps narrow definition of emoluments, finding it unpersuasive and inconsistent.

He's the judge who told DHS to turn around a plane that was in the air deporting a defendent who's case he was hearing and return to the US. He also threatened to hold AG Sessions in contempt and toss him in jail.
He's also the judge who strongly recommended Flynn try to cooperate more with the SCO before he handed down a sentence. IIRC, he called what Flynn did treasonous.

(11,885 posts)Any trump actions with policies and declarations that led to campaign contributions to trump PAC's that were funneled into to his or his family's pockets. He's done this before , and I think he'll use infrastructure funding to do this too from contractors that'll be rewarded contracts only if they'll do this .

(129,642 posts)to unwind the crap that he has put in place. And agree that the infrastructure bill would be a perfect slush fund for him (although the sub-contractors will probably either not get paid on time or will not get paid what they should be paid while the money is pocketed by whatever shell companies get set up by his organization to get the contracts).
