UPDATE: Attorney General William Barr declines to testify before House panel

Source: Washington Post

Attorney General William P. Barr told a House panel on Wednesday that he will not testify about special counsel Robert S. Mueller III’s report, raising the prospect that Democrats will hold the nation’s top law enforcement official in contempt of Congress. Barr had been scheduled to testify before the House Judiciary Committee on Thursday about his handling of Mueller’s report on Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.

But Barr balked as the committee wanted a counsel to question him alongside lawmakers, and congressional Republicans blamed the Democrats. “It’s a shame members of the House Judiciary Committee won’t get the opportunity to hear from Attorney General Barr this Thursday, because Chairman (Jerrold) Nadler chose to torpedo our hearing,” said Rep. Douglas A. Collins (R-Ga.), the panel’s top Republican.

Democrats have discussed holding Barr in contempt of Congress for ignoring a subpoena and threatening to skip the scheduled hearing, according to several lawmakers and officials familiar with the plan. During a pair of closed-door meetings Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning, the committee decided that it would probably make a push for a Barr contempt citation if he refuses to testify Thursday or ignores their subpoena for the full, unredacted report by Mueller.

Lawmakers and officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to freely discuss private deliberations, cautioned that no final decision has been made. Barr was supposed to hand over the full Mueller report by 10 a.m. Wednesday.

DO it! If we continue to allow these assholes to get away with their obstruction, then they win and we lose. The olden days of decorum and Congressional norms are long gone. C'mon Jerry, Adam, Elijah, Maxine! Go after these guys until it hurts. Contempt charges - yes! Fines - yes! Jail - yes!

And where is the American Bar Association in this? I'd like to see Barr disbarred (no pun intended) for this. Why not? That would really hit him where it hurts, his reputation.

I vote for JAIL! Subpoena him and then send the sheriff to pick him up, don't even threaten him with fines, etc. Sen Ervin said he would do it during Watergate and people knew he wasn't blowing smoke. He didn't have to arrest a single one but would have. Make an example Nadler, subpoena him then jail him and the rest of the liars in this cover up will fall in line.

To me, file contempt of congress charges and send their Sargent of arms to bring Barr to the hearing. Subpoena Mueller to appear with his unredacted report, what then could trump do? Fine impeachment against Barr,

So far, he's mainly accomplished two of those objectives.

The bigger question is, why? Why are these seemingly well educated, experienced and respected (allegedly) people bending over backwards to defend and protect Donald Trump? Is Trump just some rodeo clown whose task is to distract the bull while the ringleaders try to implement some nefarious new standard for American life? Trump is a Nazi sympathizer yet, Rod Rosenstein is now also running cover for. Barr has proven with his past that IOKIYAR. Mitch McConnell basically has free reign and Lindsey Graham has become dislodged from anything resembling stability. But, where are they going with this? What are they trying to accomplish? In a more normal setting this would be indicative of a massive cover-up. But, of what? Why would these people risk flushing whatever reputations they may have right down the toilet for a toxic mess like Donald Trump? It can't be as simple as 'party over country.' There has to be something else at stake here. And it must be extremely bad.
