Judge temporarily blocks possible Iowa voter purge

Source: Reuters

Fri Sep 14, 2012 8:20pm EDT

(Reuters) - An Iowa judge issued a temporary injunction on Friday blocking the state's plans to verify the citizenship status of voters before the November 6 election in the Midwestern swing state.

The injunction was a setback for Iowa's Republican Governor Terry Branstad, whose government had hoped to check on the citizenship of more than 3,500 people to purge state voter rolls of potential illegal immigrants.

Iowa District Court Judge Mary Pat Grunderson said the effort to verify the legal status of voters could not proceed while a lawsuit against the potential voter purge goes forward.

"The court concludes the harm that granting the temporary injunction may prevent outweighs the harm that may result from denying it," the judge wrote in her 12-page ruling.

We need a constitution amendment that completely gut the electoral process in the USA. It should:

A. Outlaw electronic Voting Machines in al 50 states.
B. Dis-allow all Voter Photo Ids requirements, utility bills as proof of address should still be valid.
C. Get rid of the Columbus Day holiday and make election day a national holiday.
D. Create non-partisan election officials. (No more Katherine Harris calling the shots)
E. Get rid of the Electoral College.
F. Overturn Citizens United.

Because states will not give up their rights to conduct elections their own way.

The current secretary of state sets off all my creepy little fuckstick alarms. And he tried to ram these rules through on an emergency basis instead of going through the process.

Of course, the conservatives decry it as Liberals turning to the courts to fight their battles. They refuse to acknowledge that the courts are merely doing their job to overturn bad legislation.
