Obama ad: We're better off than in 2008

Source: USA Today

President Obama's latest television ad seeks to answer Mitt Romney's primary question: Are you better off now than you were four years ago?

The Obama campaign says yes, saying the economy has recovered from the "worst financial collapse since the Great Depression," and has generated "30 months of private sector job growth, creating 4.6 million new jobs."

The ad says: "We're not there yet. But the real question is: Whose plan is better for you?"

-snip-

The new ad -- "The Question" -- will air in Colorado, Florida, Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada, Ohio, and Virginia.

I actually think he could have spent more time talking about how bad it was 4 years ago. And why not a picture of Bush?

Lets remind them who Romney's economic policies emulate.

The problem is the Independents who, for some reason, still need reminders of where we are and not who did it to us. I think it's unfortunate, but that's where we are.

He drew distinctions between Republican and Democratic policies and their effects using facts and humor. He avoided dwelling on blame. Nobody wants to feel guilty for voting for an idiot who caused the collapse, even if it's true. The important thing is to persuade them not to do it again.

So tell us how Obama can make the argument that we're better off now than we were 4 years ago, if he doesn't compare conditions "now" to the conditions of "4 years ago"?

Don't look for trouble where there is none!

The whole ad is nothing but comparing the conditions now to four years ago.

It doesn't mention Bush because it doesn't need to. Comparing results to results is more than enough to be effective.

During the previous administration (not mentioning any names)

1. two unimaginably costly wars of choice - with no clear goals and no goals attained - billions of taxpayer money handed to arms manufacturers and corrupt international governments
2. crashing economic sector - investment banks failing - economy on verge of collapse - taxpayers on the hook to bail out selected institutions
3. hugely criminal mortgage lending industry - contributing to failing economy
4. huge tax cuts for the rich and corporations who in turn take their proceeds and invest or bank offshore
5. marked decline of middle class employment opportunities, stagnating declining wages and huge job losses - failure of recently enriched corporations and individuals to re-invest in America
6. failing car industry

I am so sick of the namby pamby catering to the lying pigs. It's unfortunate that we still enable it and allow it to take place.

Americans have very short memories. They NEED to be reminded that Bush/Cheney almost destroyed this country and that Rmoney is going to repeat that disaster.

We haven't seen big players falling lately, certainly nothing like in the fall of 2008. So yes, say it proud: we are much better off now.

Romney totally stepped in it again.

Individually, yes, employment was better then, but employment is a lagging indicator. As a country, as a whole, the economy is much more stable, and that is better off.
