More details emerge on U.S. ambassador's last moments

Source: CNN

>

Disagreement over how attack began.

The suite where the body of the ambassador was found was protected by a large door with steel bars; the windows had steel bars.

His body was recovered after looters broke into the room. It appears his security detail left him in the room while they tried to deal with the attack.

Chief among the questions is what happened to U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens, who went missing during the attack.

The State Department has not released details about how Stevens died, though numerous media reports have said the ambassador was taken from the consulate to the Benghazi medical center by locals.

<snip>
According to one of the Libyan security guards who was stationed at one of the gates armed with only a radio, the assault began simultaneously from three directions.

Heavy machine guns and rocket -propelled grenades were used, according to the guard. He said masked men threatened to kill him at gunpoint for 'protecting the infidels. He declined to appear on camera for fear of repercussions.
<un snip>

No doubt in my mind that this was planned.

2. Planned but possibly coincidental with the film protest.

For it to have been otherwise would indicate that those responsible had control over the Salafi tv news channel in Egypt which is doubtful. It was that channel broadcasting brief details of the film which started the film issue.

3. It's important to remember just how great an ambassador and statesman Stevens was

He moved the consulate from Tripoli (where he arguably would have been safer) to Benghazi because he wanted to embrace the populace and the people who are in control. The more I learn about him the more there is to admire.

is sending "those" emails around again. The latest one is about the ambassador's body desecrated and/or dragged through the streets.

Because it's from him, I a) don't open it - the headline in the email says it all, and b) don't believe it because it's just another one of those wrong-wing screeds that I am used to seeing from this guy.

they are paid to be guns not EMT's - they probably wanted to cover their own asses. That is what you get with private contractors.

Someone should answer for this -- among the Libyans but also the security detail for the Consulate.

The security detail should at least be required to stand for questioning about what really happened. It isn't a matter of punishing them. It is a matter of finding out the truth so that we can prevent future similar events.

hired guns SEALS best of the best, end up dead. How? weren't they suppose to be standing guard? i bet they were in that pool i saw at the consulate door. living the good life off the taxpayer dime instead of doing their job. IMO.
