The top U.S. campaign finance official said Friday she's "gravely concerned about the efforts of foreign governments to try to intervene" in American elections and issued a fresh warning that 2020 candidates, including President Donald Trump, are barred from accepting “anything of value” from foreign nationals and governments.

In an exclusive interview with MSNBC's "Morning Joe," Federal Election Commission Chair Ellen Weintraub, said the law governing the issue is “pretty straightforward.”

"Anyone in the United States is not allowed to accept anything of value from a foreign national. Particularly a foreign government in connection with an election," Weintraub said.

Her comments came just days after Trump said he'd consider taking information on opponents from other countries.

Because you just know Trump will use ANY tiny bit of outside offered info on his Dem opponents. Why even contemplate that all you need is sternly worded letters, and warnings, and that will be enough?

And its not just Russia, and its not just a new phenomenon.

My thought is...if say some foreign government or even private citizen, knows that Donald Trump was bribing officials to clear the road for one of his hotels or towers, or offered money laundering services, or some other crime, use it. Whats good for the fat orange gander is good for the goose.

I think Trump would lose his mind if a Democrat went to the mic and shouted..."If any foreign government has anything on Trump we want to hear about it!" Obviously no one, including the AG, is going to prosecute because they have done and are doing the same thing. And they can't really come down on Democrats if they themselves crow about how its not wrong to use anything they can find.

Look, we don't want to stoop to "illegal" means to win, but if it really is something "of value" ie. solid truthful information about a Republican opponent, why not use it? They set the bar. Its foolish to play holier than thou and refuse to look at some damning info on Trump from another country so you can brag about how you don't even know what your opponent did..because you are so pure and honorable. And then the Republican stands up and says , "wait a minute...you are not so pure, I know for a fact by these leaked emails .....".

We need to push this out there as starkly as possible. All the election tampering info should be an ongoing featured narrative if we want to keep our democracy.
