Pa. GOP chairman Val DiGiorgio resigns after report about interactions with Philly council candidate

HARRISBURG -- Val DiGiorgio, the head of the Pennylvania's Republican party, resigned Tuesday after The Inquirer reported he had traded sexually explicit messages with a onetime GOP candidate for Philadelphia City Council.
DiGiorgio, 51, said in a statement that his communications with the woman, Irina Goldstein, who made an unsuccessful run for City Council this year, were "entirely consensual," and that any accusations that he engaged in harassment or abuse of power are "fundamentally untrue."
DiGiorgio also wrote that "the attempt to represent these communications as anything other than that came only after I declined to support her candidacy and take sides in the party primary." "I extend my deepest apologies to my family and colleagues for this unfortunate distraction," he wrote, adding: "I intend to vigorously defend myself against these assertions and protect my family, my colleagues, and the party from this private matter."
His departure comes as Pennsylvania enters the national spotlight as a critical swing state in the 2020 presidential election. The head of the state party is the face of the GOP, which counts roughly 3.2 million registered voters.

This just bubbled up locally here in Philly after the Inquirer expose...
EDIT - just noticed that someone at the Inky had updated the link to the article. The original link (in my OP) has "penis" as part of the link. The new web link does not - https://www.inquirer.com/politics/val-digiorgio-resigns-gop-sexually-explicit-texts-20190625.html (both work though)

Since he is from Philly, he woudn't get much sympathy from this side of the state anyway.
Here is a link to the article that apparently prompted this resignation - https://www.inquirer.com/news/pennsylvania-republican-party-valentino-val-digiorgio-president-donald-trump-irina-goldstein-online-messages-20190625.html
