Kim Darroch Quits as U.K. Ambassador to U.S. Amid Trump's Fury

Britain’s ambassador to the U.S. dramatically resigned after leaked comments in which he criticized the Trump White House sparked a major diplomatic row between the transatlantic allies.

President Donald Trump decided to freeze out Kim Darroch, saying he would no longer deal with the man who had called his administration "inept" and "uniquely dysfunctional."

The U.K. government said Darroch would quit. "The current situation is making it impossible for me to carry out my role as I would like," Darroch said in a letter announcing his decision.

The resignation follows a sustained attack from Trump, who on Tuesday described Darroch as a "pompous fool." Perhaps most difficult for Darroch was the fact that he failed to win the backing of Boris Johnson, the man who is likely to be the U.K.’s next prime minister.

5. Yeah, Darroch was said to prefer remaining in the EU

and the Brexit nutters (the journalist this was leaked to is closely associated with them) wanted to put pressure on the civil service to appoint True Believers to the important posts.

All countries get candid opinions from their ambassadors; Trump is either being a thinkskinned baby whose advisers cannot explain how the diplomatic service works (thus proving the earlier assessment), or has played this to help Nigel Farage and the hardliners (and, behind them all, Putin) in screwing up the EU as much as possible.
