Wendy Davis plans to run for Congress, congressional staffer says
Source: Austin American-Statesman
A staffer for U.S. Rep. Filemon Vela, D-Brownsville, told the American-Statesman Thursday that former state Sen. Wendy Davis plans to run in the 21st Congressional District, currently held by U.S. Rep. Chip Roy of Austin.
Wendy spoke to the Congressman directly that she plans on running, said Abigail Sheppard, the press secretary for Vela.
The former Democratic gubernatorial nominee has been eyeing the district, where Roy defeated Democrat Joseph Kopser by less than 3 percentage points in 2018, for months. There have been numerous reports of Davis planning to throw her hat in the ring, though Davis campaign has never corroborated them.
The news came as The Texas Tribune reported Thursday that national Democrats, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, have invited potential Davis supporters to Washington, D.C., next Tuesday for a meeting in support of her campaign for Texas CD21.

(112,191 posts)The district does include portions of Austin where she will be able to draw plenty of votes. A lot of voters will remember what Chip Roy did to cause a delay in the release of emergency funds.
