President Donald Trump Says Antifascists Should Be Labeled A Domestic Terror Group

President Donald Trump increased the scrutiny on Portland's leftist demonstrators over the weekend, saying he might designate antifascists as domestic terrorists.
On July 27, Trump described Antifa on Twitter as "gutless Radical Left Wack Jobs" and compared them to international criminal gang MS-13. He indicated that he would consider a Senate resolution introduced by U.S. Sens. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Bill Cassidy (R-Louisiana) introduced to the Senate several weeks ago, which calls for the designation of antifa as a domestic terrorist organization.

The idea of labeling leftist protesters as domestic terrorists has been floating around law-enforcement circles for nearly as long as those groups have been protesting Trump's election. Portland's antifascists have been the subject of particular ire from conservatives, because they engage in violent brawls with right-wing protesters who visit town to fight them.
But this resolution was triggered by a specific event in Portland: an assault on conservative journalist Andy Ngo by masked attackers while he filmed a march in June. (Trump's public support for the resolution came the day after Fox News dedicated a segment to Antifa violence.)

(1,414 posts)and the attempt to label them as such is straight out of the Nazi playbook. It is the first step in outlawing ALL opposition. I've stated in other post that I unequivocally support the ANTIFA, much to the chagrin of some here. I know many on the left find their tactics disturbing. I understand their point of view, but however, I do not share it. I respect those who hope for a peaceful solution for our current troubles. I hope they are right, but I'm a realist and I see that history is repeating itself. I would say to those who are on the left but take issue with the ANTIFA to not be fooled into the false equivocation of ANTIFA as the same as Nazis, neo-confederates and the rest of the violent right. They are not! Do not ask that Nazi's neo-confederates and the like be designated as terrorist IF the Antifa is designated as such. Nazis, neo-confederates and the like ARE terrorist, and if those terrorist were not on the rise the need for the Antifa wouldn't exists. You don't have to support the Antifa, but do not fall for this very sick game being played by the elected Nazis (fka republicans) whose sole intent is to outlaw ALL opposition to their sick plans. RESIST!

(14,174 posts)I would go further to say that I am very disturbed by the MSM, and even elected Democrats, that continue to take the bait and mirror the Nazi's claims that educated patriotic young people that are aware historically of the dangers of fascism taking root, and have decided to do something about it and stand up and have push back on far right white supremacist rallies, are the actual threat to the country.
They state over and over that any violence would be in defending themselves from the pro-nazi protesters. Other "violence" that has been reported as such is smashed windows, of banks and other establishments. Is that wrong? yes. But please, this is a non-leader organization. Its a big tent with some very young and naive and angry kids who some identify more as anarchists than "Democratic Socialist", if they even know what that means. You have to expect those on the fringes of a fringe organization will make mistakes. Even so, a broken window does not compare to mowing down a young woman with a car.
Their loosely stated goal is to fight against fascism before it takes an irreversabal hold. To be ahead of the people in 1940's Germany.
Its maddening to hear the MSM news portray them as potential terrorists, instead of concerned patriotic young people that don't want America to turn into Nazi Germany. They are called Anti-Fascists ffs! I feel like I'm living in a bizzaro dream sometimes when those that protest against fascism in the wake of a ton of far right violence and violent language, are labeled, by pundits with a straight face, as terrorists!
These kids should be lauded as patriots and heroes for standing against the rising tide of fascism and white supremacist aggression.
