Foreign countries warn citizens about traveling to the US because of mass shootings

Source: USA Today

Foreign countries are issuing warnings to their citizens about traveling to the United States after a weekend of violence left 31 people dead in two separate mass shootings this weekend.

The Venezuelan government issued a statement urging its citizens to postpone trips to the U.S. after the “recent acts of violence.”

The press release advises that Venezuelans stay away from cities that have the most violence citing a 2019 Forbes article that lists the most dangerous cities in the U.S. These cities were Cleveland; Detroit; Baltimore; St. Louis; Oakland, California; Memphis, Tennessee; Birmingham, Alabama; Atlanta, Stockton, California; and Buffalo, New York.

Also in Latin America, the Uruguayan government issued a similar release that urges its citizens to take precaution when visiting the U.S. because of its “increasing indiscriminate violence” and hate crimes fueled by “racism and discrimination that cost the lives of more than 250 people in the first seven months of this year.”

The Uruguayan notice specifically advises to avoid places that have a large concentration of people such as theme parks, malls, art festivals, religious activities, food festivals, sports events and mass protests.

Great, the US has officially reached shithole status. Thanks Trump, the GOP, and the NRA.

Come on people, there are way more normal people than NRA types in our country.

And of course the GOP immigration plan is to make America a shithole that no one wants to come to.

My husband and I were stunned to realize that we had the same reaction to El Paso and Dayton - that we were glad that she was there, because she was safer!

El Paso was one of the safest cities. In other words, you're not safe anywhere.

a year, may be less, from memory, so their homicide rate almost tripled in a few minutes.

Domestic terrorists can strike anywhere in America, no matter how safe it is.

A "safe city" has more to do with crime than a terrorist shooting random strangers.

Uruguay is warning people about specific cities based on crime statistics, but none are safe any more.

Much longer.

I didn't see Milwaukee or Chicago.

Every city has areas where you shouldn't go.

In the 90s, car rental companies stopped making their cars easy to spot and target the visitors.

A couple of days ago, the USA embassy here emailed a State Department advisory to US citizens living/ visiting Uruguay.
The alert level was raised from 'use usual precautions' to 'use extreme caution', especially in upscale neighborhoods and shopping areas.
The reason:
Street crime robberies, usually grab and run; although armed robberies also happen.

Other country dangers are theft. In the USA the danger is death.

I wish the Uruguay warning had specifically warned that simply speaking Spanish can be dangerous.

for the rest of our lives, there's a very high probability that none of us would ever be near a mass shooting of this type.

Same for school shootings. There are something like 150,000 schools in this nation with I have no idea how many classrooms each (most shootings are in one area). Our children are much safer there than while being driven to school, and they're safe while being driven.

The morphing of the Republican Party, "assisted" by hostile foreign powers that want our nation crippled to destroyed, does suggest that a complete revolution-lead breakdown of civil order would be far more likely. But that's something different.
