Democrats call for Pelosi to cut recess short to address white nationalism

Source: The Hill

Dozens of House Democrats are pressing Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) to cut short the long summer break and bring House committees back to Washington to address the violent rise of white nationalism.

Behind two freshmen lawmakers — Reps. Veronica Escobar (Texas) and Tom Malinowski (N.J.) — the Democrats maintain that "urgent attention" is needed to tackle "the threats posed by white supremacist terrorism" in the wake of Saturday's deadly mass shooting in El Paso, Texas, where the suspect appeared to be driven by anti-immigrant sentiment.

The pair is circulating a letter among House Democrats urging Pelosi to call back the relevant panels to take up related legislation.

"In the wake of the El Paso shootings, it is clear that terrorists motivated by a common white supremacist ideology are committing deadly attacks against African-American, Jewish, Muslim, Hispanic and other non-white communities in the United States and around the world, and that they pose a clear and present danger to our national security," reads the letter, which has been signed by 48 members so far.

No, there are bigger issues that need extreme attention. How to combat the Russian's interference in our way of life, and how to get the entire world on board in solving the issue of climate change.

until those two problems are solved, everything else will only get worse.

Would the Senate pass such legislation?

If Moscow Mitch allowed it to be brought up?

Hurry back to address disagreeable rhetoric? To repeal the first, second, fourth, fifth amendments, so authorities can properly deal with racism, if they're so inclined?

What, exactly, is to be accomplished by the House, having been rushed back to Washington?

Whatever is to be accomplished can be done in "normal Congressional time". It will not be rushed by a few freshmen.

Stay home, relax, meet with constituents, then get back to work.
