Trump confirms he's interested in buying Greenland

Source: Portland Press Herald

President Trump confirmed Sunday that he has asked his administration to explore the possibility of buying Greenland, opining that “essentially, it’s a large real estate deal.”

“A lot of things can be done,” Trump told reporters in Morristown, New Jersey, after wrapping up a 10-day vacation at his private golf club. He noted that owning Greenland “would be nice” for the United States from a strategic perspective, but he cautioned: “It’s not number one on the burner, I can tell you that.”

Trump’s desire to buy Greenland, which is part of the kingdom of Denmark, was first reported last week by the Wall Street Journal. Two people with direct knowledge of the directive told The Washington Post that the president has mentioned the idea for weeks, and that aides are waiting for more direction before they decide how seriously they should look into it.

Trump is scheduled to visit Denmark in two weeks, although he said Sunday that his visit is not related to his interest in Greenland.

The consequences of that are, truly, enormous on every level.

Climatologically: Stimulates positive feedback forcing further global atmospheric and oceanic warming with all the consequences that will bring... But he doesn't want to have to think about that. To be fair, the same applies to so many, still.

Geostrategically (the Arctic as true center of gravity of the world):

Militarily: It's Russia over there, with just Canada and Greenland and water in between...

Mineral Resource extraction and associated contamination opportunities: enormous.

Value as political theater in the forthcoming elections: Hmmm. A simple issue his base can understand. Why not 'do a deal' and take Nunavut too?

That it has become a "thing" is a sad indictment of how far down the rabbit hole we have all gone in this country.

It's not like Trump can just write a check and the land automatically becomes part of this country. The US has bought territories from other nations before - the Louisiana Purchase and Alaska to name two. Purchasing a territory involves international treaties, which in turn require the approval of 2/3 of the Senate. Not to mention what would likely be a very large amount of money that Congress would have to allocate.

Oh, right. The treasury is the tRump family personal bank account. Hey, Donald, start with Ireland, then move on to Scotland, then England. When you are out of office, you can claim them all as your own personal purchases. What the HELL does this clown use for BRAINS?? At least Saint Ronnie had competent people around him when he sank into dementia. tRump is surrounded by people as crazy as he is. Probably as addled as he is. Wilbur Ross, Larry Kudlow, Bolton, Ghouliani are all at "that age".

develop his brand on the Faroe Islands which Denmark claims as well. Apparently, there's only a single small prison or perhaps none.

From on-line reading and photos, it's a lovely peaceful place, though I suspect he might have some trouble locating suitable sites for panoramic 18 holes. Then there's that wicked constant sea breeze, lol!

It's a well-functioning country within a country with their own local rule of law but Danish higher court decision-making, and their own visa and immigration requirements which island leadership controls, not Denmark, except in areas islanders have so chosen or modeled. The Islands hold separate trade agreements by contract with other nations or with specific vendors and may make their own treaties should the need arise. Islanders have Nordic-Celtic roots like unto Momma and Daddy Dearest, if you give credence to Daddy being Norwegian, LOL! Although they have their own national language, Faroese, most of the population is multi-lingual, with some English, Dutch, and other Germanic and Scandinavian tongues mostly, being islands with a 95% white population of roughly 50K with more sheep than people and few PoC. Youth have tended to leave for at least a European experience; some never return. Sadly, having more men than women, the country's desperate men advertised for Asian(?) brides from the Philippines, Indonesia, and Thailand on dating sites; just right for branded salons, no? So there's that. Only one airport serves the island nations. The weather is changeable, windy and temperate but on the cool side, good wool sweater weather with Atlantic storms most of the year. Mukluks are unnecessary but rain gear is. There are no truly native wild animals save for rats that came shoreside from fishing vessels and no forests to rake or burn. Birding is a very popular tourist activity (Puffins). Ethic festivals with lots of music are also popular. Only imported landscaping trees throw shade or block views of lichen and moss-covered craggy old volcanic basalt cliffs. Modern technology has been implemented in cities and infrastructure, roads, tunnels, and bridges are well-maintained. Fishing is still done; one can even go whaling. Merchants offer a variety of modern goods and services. Yes, shopping!

Trump tells the truth whenever he "protests too much." And this makes sense. He sees Greenland as just another real estate deal where he can use other people's money to score big. All of his other "presidential legacies" are turning sour - this is the Next Big Thing. Or it could just be another case of hollering "Squirrel!" Given that it is Trump, both could be true.

He uses the media by putting these stories out to redirect attention away from Putin , Epstein, corruption by him and his family, and Cabinet, and the media still promotes it for him. They are still being played by him, and Putin. In this respect they are promoting fake news, only its his that he puts out.
