Trump Suggests His Miami Resort as 'Great Place' for Next G7 Meeting
Source: NY Times
President Trump suggested on Monday that he plans to host next years Group of 7 summit meeting for world leaders at his Doral luxury golf resort near Miami, once again raising ethical issues about the mixing of his businesses and presidency.
If he follows through, the spectacle of the annual gathering of heads of state at a Trump-owned property would be the highest-profile example of the presidents willingness to flout the boundaries that have historically constrained such presidential activities.
The president said on Monday that hosting the summit at Doral made perfect sense, calling the sprawling golf resort a great place and bragging that its got tremendous acreage, many hundreds of acres, so we can handle whatever happens. Its really people are really liking it and plus it has buildings that have 50 to 70 units. And so each delegation can have its own building.
Critics take a far different view. They argue that the Group of 7 summit which attracts global attention and brings with it thousands of government officials and the international news media would be a gold mine for Mr. Trumps for-profit property, providing an immediate increase in revenue and raising its profile around the world.

If I were a foreign head of state, I would refuse to stay there. I would not be comfortable nor convinced that my privacy was protected.
Remember that whatever those "pee tapes" contain, the Russians absolutely DID record trump in that hotel. It was a known fact that the KGB routinely did this.

BTW, can he admit Russia to the G7 -- turning it back into the G8 -- unilaterally? I can see the order now: "I hereby order the G7 to admit Russia at the next summit, which will be held at my beautiful Doral property, not that I will financially benefit from it."

(28,082 posts)Trump's facilities shakey relationship with several health departments. Here's just one of them:
https://qz.com/1612352/pools-at-trump-hotels-shut-by-health-inspectors/
Donald Trump has regularly boasted his hotels and resorts are the worlds finest. In Florida, pool inspection reports tell a different story.
Swimming pools at Trump resort properties in Florida are cited for poor water quality and other health and safety violations far more frequently by the states Department of Health than pools at comparable luxury properties, records reviewed by Quartz show.
The violations were so serious that Trumps Florida properties were forced to close their pools by health inspectors 10 times over the past 12 months. State records show multiple citations for violations like improper pH levels, problems with disinfection feeders that pump chlorine into the water, and inadequate safety features, including deficient handrails and ladders.
Improper pH and chlorine levels result in automatic closures, according to Florida regulations. They can lead to conditions that permit the spread of gastrointestinal, skin, ear, respiratory, eye, and neurologic illnesses, according to the US Centers for Disease Control.
In comparison to Trump Florida properties, nearby four and five-star resorts and private clubs had mostly pristine pool inspection records over the same time period.

(1,855 posts)knowing that every time the orange buffoon leaves the country, hes almost panicked knowing he has to deal with a foreign culture. Remember one of the first drop the mike moments at one of his earliest foreign trips? The get me outta here plea? I loved it. I love every minute of every second hes out of the country, knowing that hes acutely uncomfortable in the presence of otherness, that he doesnt plan on trying to boink.
I get even more schadenfreude knowing that when he does find a KFC or a McDonalds in some shitty foreign capital hes traveled to, hell find out that theres a subtle difference to the foods, and its just not comforting.
Youve gotta know that trump is one of those guys that every time he hears somebody speaking a foreign language, hes hateful and paranoid, because hes sure that theyre talking about him, and not it a good way.
Well of course. Hes earned every comment a dozen times over, in any language on earth. Plus Klingon.

(523 posts)By being intransigent at the Paris conference, Trump made it necessary for G-7 to schedule a follow-up meeting. He now tries to steer that follow-up meeting to his own hotel, essentially creating a demand for his product by his own bad behavior.
I am sure this fools none of the G-7 heads of state and I wouldn't be surprised if they each gave a scathing review on Yelp.
