Michael Cohen cooperating in probe into whether Trump Organization falsified records

Source: CNBC

Michael Cohen has agreed to cooperate in an investigation into whether the Trump Organization falsified business records, a source familiar with the situation told NBC News.

Cohen signed a proffer agreement with the Manhattan District Attorney's Office, which is investigating the Trump Organization, the source said. The agreement stipulates that he will cooperate with the office in its investigation.

The investigation could result in fines against the Trump Organization or Allen Weisselberg, who managed the organization's business affairs.

On Aug. 20, representatives from the DA's office went to meet with Cohen at Otisville Prison in upstate New York, where he is serving a three-year sentence after pleading guilty to campaign finance violations related to hush money payments to two women who claimed that had affairs with Trump prior to taking office, the source told NBC News.

It appears that the Manhattan District Attorney's office picked up the prosecutorial baton after the prosecutor for the SDNY, under Trump's toady William Barr, dropped it.

The district attorney opened the investigation last month and sent subpoenas to the Trump Organization and American Media Inc. seeking documents and records over payments made to Stormy Daniels as well as Karen McDougal during the 2016 presidential campaign.

The probe is focused on whether Trump's business violated New York state law by falsifying its records describing reimbursements to Cohen for the payments.

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York, which closed its own investigation in July, alleged that the Trump Organization paid Cohen $420,000 to reimburse him for the $130,000 hush money payment to Daniels, boosting the total to include taxes and a bonus.

The company said the fees were legal expenses, though prosecutors alleged Cohen did no legal work for the business in 2017. The Trump Organization was ultimately not charged with any wrongdoing.

Or, we'll be sitting here thinking this is the bombshell that will get trump, only to find out in a few months it's another dead end.

3. Cohen has already said enough, along with other evidence, to get Trumpers indicted.

The difference would be if this NY state prosecutor actually took that step.

harming himself in any form.

That he loves his life, he loves his wife and children and he is anxiously waiting to be reunited with them as soon as his sentence is complete. That if anything were to happen to him it would not be by his own accord and that he would place responsibility on trump and Barr.

Not sure that he can do that, but it would be nice to put them on notice to stay away.

I hope there are people looking out for him, I wish him well and hope he can collaborate fully with the DA.

Lock him up.

I just pulled up the Wikipedia on him. It is interesting and discouraging regarding Epstein, Weinstein, and Trump family members. It led me to this article, summarizing parts: https://www.vogue.com/article/cyrus-vance-jr-didnt-prosecute-weinstein-ivanka-donald-trump-jr
