Russia asks Interpol for help over alleged CIA mole's whereabouts

Source: The Guardian

Russia has asked the United States via Interpol to provide information on the whereabouts of a former member of Vladimir Putin’s administration who is believed to have been a CIA informant.

The alleged CIA mole, named this week by Russian media as Oleg Smolenkov, was whisked to safety by US intelligence agents during a family holiday in Montenegro in June 2017, CNN reported earlier this week.

“A citizen of Russia disappeared on the territory of a foreign state along with his family,” a Russian foreign ministry spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, said. “Two years later, American media throws up a story about how he is in the United States … Interpol was presented with questions regarding the disappearance of a foreign citizen and his presence on the territory of the United States.”

Smolenkov is reported to have worked at the Russian embassy under ambassador Yury Ushakov in Washington. He then followed the ambassador back to Moscow in 2008, when Ushakov was appointed foreign policy adviser to Putin. Ushakov declined to comment when asked on Thursday if he knew Smolenkov.

When I saw this twit being interviewed the other night on MSNBC, it was a definite WTF moment. If this Russian, and/or any of his family, ends up dead, it's directly on Delainian's head. Geez, talk about clueless - endangering peoples lives for an eff'in 'story'? Hello? Ken, you're a reporter. Are you not aware of, or seen the assassination attempts/successes against Russian (anti-Putin) dissidents/defectors in the UK and elsewhere over the last 20 years or so? If not, you're in the wrong eff'in business. (Didn't this guy get caught in another boneheaded story a few months ago?)

This idiot was so full of himself for finding this guy. He was told to lay off by someone, but only when caught after the fact. The damage was done. If something does happen, this type of stuff from numbskulls like him is the kind of krap that gives opponents of a free press some basis to argue their point of view, as perverse as it may be. And it doesn't matter whether one's pov is right or left.

What an idiot.

Otoh, if I were Jerry Nadler, I'd want to have this guy testify before the Judiciary Committee, to hear from the horse's mouth, as it were, how Putin decided to help Trump and Trump was happy to accept that help.

And they’re just now contacting Interpol?

Must not have been too worried about the guy. Or, maybe they thought his disappearance was one of their own ops.

So hard to keep all the kidnapping and murders straight.
