Pelosi says Corey Lewandowski deserves to be held in contempt

Source: Politico

By HEATHER CAYGLE 09/18/2019 08:35 PM EDT

Speaker Nancy Pelosi said on Wednesday that Corey Lewandowski deserved to be held in contempt of Congress for his combative performance before the House Judiciary Committee, where the former Trump campaign manager repeatedly refused to answer questions about his testimony to special counsel Robert Mueller.

Pelosi told Democrats during a private meeting on Wednesday that Democrats should have held Lewandowski in contempt “then and there,” according to multiple sources in the room.

Pelosi’s comments come a day after Lewandowski’s marathon testimony, which left Democrats angry and frustrated. Lewandowski refused to answer many of Democrats’ questions about his testimony to Mueller and often seemed to be performing for an audience of one — President Donald Trump — as he prepares for a potential Senate run.

At one point during the hearing, Rep. David Cicilline (D-R.I.) became so angry that he started yelling for Lewandowski to be held in contempt. The Judiciary chairman, Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.), didn’t take that action but left open the possibility at the end of the hearing.

Some attendees of the Wednesday-night meeting interpreted Pelosi‘s remarks as an indirect criticism of Nadler, but a spokesperson for the California Democrat stressed that this was not the case.

An awful lot of talk, but so little action. Of course, I also realize that anything Democrats do now will be done 100 fold by republicans down the road. We've seen them do it time and time again, usually without cause. I believe that the impeachment of Bill Clinton in part was retaliation for Nixon. Republican carry petty grudges for years.

Democrats have held justifiable congressional hearings over the years, so republicans decided to drag out unwarranted, endless hearings such as Benghazi and Hillary's emails. Democrats actually know how to legislate and carry out their obligations of oversight and advise and consent. Republicans just playact the role, much like children pretending to be adults.

Anyway, Nancy Pelosi knows this and lived it up close and personal for a long time. Still I think Lewandowski should be held in contempt, otherwise what is the point of hearings and "contempt of congress" doesn't mean anything.

Lock him up.

Dems need to take the Law(s) seriously and apply the penalties on the spot to the supposedly 'Law And Order' pugs and if they squeal, show the letter of the LAW to the people & media.

Lock them up (before it's too late)!!

it will only embolden others to do the same thing, knowing there will be no repercussions if they lie or willfully resist questions. Trump and the republicans are destroying the legislative branch of government, much like in a dictatorship.

Don’t make a martyr out of morons like Lewandowski.

The committee sucked out confirmation from him that he is a public liar. That’s all they need to know from him—he’s willing to hide the truth. It’s a gigantic win.

Letting him out without being jailed is the worst punishment for him—now he must run a political campaign with the foundation that he will lie to people on TV to support Trump.

Goodbye Senator Lewandowski, hello Inmate 5489098.

Honestly, I don't get why they seem to be agonizing over this. He was clearly in contempt, so draft a resolution, put it on the floor and vote already.

This Congress would still be looking for John Wilkes Booth.

all the noise in the world from anyone in our Congress equals--- noise, not action, just noise. We've had 2.5 years of utter corruption and lawlessness from this administration and I do not expect anything but more dithering and hand-wringing until the election.. and then, I expect even less as it appears the fix will be in again as this administration has left all the barn doors open.

Do you ever wonder how this government with its billions and billions and billions of dollars of high tech security and thousands of little minions of 'sneaky pete' perfection let all the sh*t happen in 2016 and continue to allow it to happen now and into the future. What happened to the money... did they just slip it into someones pocket or buy them off?
