Darrell Issa's nomination for trade post hits a snag over his FBI background file

Source: Los Angeles Times

WASHINGTON — Darrell Issa’s nomination to serve as a Trump administration trade official hit a road block Thursday amid concerns over something in the former California congressman’s FBI background file.

Early in a confirmation hearing by the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee, the GOP chairman announced that a vote on Issa’s nomination to lead Trump’s U.S. Trade and Development Agency would be delayed until the White House agreed to make available Issa’s FBI background file to the full committee. It was unclear what in the file was raising concerns among members.

“There’s information in his FBI background investigation that concerns me greatly, and that I believe members may find problematic, and potentially disqualifying for Senate confirmation,” said Ranking Democrat Robert Menendez (D-N.J.), who has held Issa’s nomination up for a year.

Senate Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Jim Risch (R-Idaho) said that the committee would not vote until the White House made the FBI file available. “We’re going to get this file open,” Risch sad.

A long time ago he was running one of the House hearings for something. He pissed me off so much I looked him up on the Google. My gosh, he has a past. Was in the Army, invented the Viper car alarm. Caught up in some fraud stuff like you said.

A republican is holding up a vote on Issa’s nomination until the White House makes his FBI file available to them?

Is that right?

Issa is going to attract the wrong kind of attention for Republicans going into a competitive 2020 election.

If he gets confirmed, he'll be the least corrupt person in the entire administration.

I mean, yeah he did steal a few cars, torch a couple buildings and commit insurance fraud, but we know about those crimes.

Contrast that with Trump, who has committed thousands of crimes we don't even know about!

Now, obviously Issa shouldn't be given the trade representative job. but after we put the kibosh on Issa's ill-advised nomination we need to start looking at and running off the rest of the crooks (which means everyone) in Trump's inner circle.
