Pelosi Statement on Whistleblower Complaint
SEPTEMBER 20, 2019 PRESS RELEASE
Washington, D.C. Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement after reports of a whistleblower complaint filed by a member of the Intelligence Community, which is being withheld from Congress in violation of federal law:
Reports of a reliable whistleblower complaint regarding the Presidents communications with a foreign leader raise grave, urgent concerns for our national security. We must be sure that the President and his Administration are conducting our national security and foreign policy in the best interest of the American people, not the Presidents personal interest.
The Director of National Intelligence Inspector General, who was appointed by President Trump, has said that the complaint is both of urgent concern and credible, and its disclosure relates to one of the most significant and important of the Director of National Intelligences responsibilities to the American people.
The Administrations blocking of Acting DNI Joseph Maguire from providing Congress with the whistleblower complaint violates the federal statute, which unequivocally states that the DNI shall provide Congress this information. If the President has done what has been alleged, then he is stepping into a dangerous minefield with serious repercussions for his Administration and our democracy. The President and Acting DNIs stonewalling must end immediately, and the whistleblower must be provided with every protection guaranteed by the law to defend the integrity of our government and ensure accountability and trust.
"Chairman Adam Schiff and the Intelligence Committee are to be commended for their strong leadership to ensure Congress is provided all the information so that we can fulfill our responsibility to protect the American people and our national security. We will continue to follow the facts and explore every possible option to ensure the American people get the truth. We would hope that Republicans would join us in supporting the Constitution.

(5,749 posts)A majority of House Democrats 134 of the 235 endorse impeachment....
..... out of 435 members of the house. That would make 301 representatives against it.
So that's not going to work... Yet.

(15,751 posts)Seeing fox news from my gym arc machine about 3:45p, was a startling [for fox] chyron announcing 'a bombshell wsj/fox report' on the Ukraine/whistleblower report. This was followed by an actual, news report stating, with chyron announcing, 'President trump reportedly called the Ukrainian President 8 times', to get action by the Ukraine against Biden Jr.
This breaking news seemed to be cut very short by news of an SUV inside a shopping center mall, [no injuries reported], for the next 20 minutes. Then about 10 minutes on trump Iran 'news'. Finally, back to the 8 trump phone calls, but only about media coverage of 'the President' and media bias. Really didn't touch the actual news impact of the so suspicious 8 phone calls.
Possible, that corporate fox informed that the breaking 8 phone call news was seriously threatening for some reason - and immediately cracked down hard on actual news reports, spinning towards their usual opinion twists.
Time will tell.

(172 posts)Nancy will write a very stern letter, crap will be tied up in courts until 2025. trumps administration will continue to wipe their buts with subpoenas.
If the parties were reversed and this was a democratic president doing these things, a republican house would be doing a whole lot more than our feckless leaders in congress who just enable this maniac.
Sorry but if something strong isnt done soon, I'm afraid its going to turn off a lot of democratic support.
I know I'm getting close.

(3,524 posts)While Nancy is waiting for support from who knows where, she has damn near loss the support of this household of Democratic voters.
I guess it will work out in the end, she will lose this household of three, but find others.
Im done.

(42,653 posts)since the subject of discussions with Ukranian president were raised by Guiliani, I think, in mid-July. This may have more legs to it than anyone outside the IC thinks, but only they know for sure. Nancy Pelosi is clearly acting in the name of the American people and the Rule of Law. In America, eventually, you can drive that right down the middle of the track and all will fall by the wayside. But we'll see.

(28,202 posts)Every day I lose more faith in Democratic leadership being equal to the task. Why wouldn't trump be considering an extended dictatorship? Who's going to stop him?

(1,190 posts)Eliza Doolittle was fed up with Henry Higgins and I'm disgusted with the spineless Dems who are so afraid of the future that they cower before the bully Trump.
It's time to set aside the fear of what may happen and deal with the reality of the moment. We must face up to Trump now. Impeach now without apologies.
