AARON EISENBERG, WHO PLAYED NOG ON STAR TREK: DEEP SPACE NINE, DIES AT AGE 50

Source: SyFy.com

Aaron Eisenberg, the actor who played the Ferengi known as "Nog" on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, passed away at the age of 50 yesterday. Born with just one kidney that did not operate at full capacity, Eisenberg struggled with organ failure throughout his life and received two transplants, one at age 17 (he was on dialysis as a teenager) and one at age 46.

The news of his death was confirmed by his wife, Malíssa Longo, on Facebook. Earlier in the day, she had tweeted that Aaron was in the hospital in critical condition.

Didn't realize he was that young (at least on the show) although for the character he was playing it would make sense.

R.I.P. from a fan of the show!

i'm a huge Trek and DS9 fan. Aaron was never very healthy. Lots of kidney problems. May he rest in peace.

One of his best scenes was with Avery Brooks in season three, and it was very "Star Trek". An outsider joining the Federation with a drive to be better than they are, and to strive for something greater for everyone. And the fact that they wrote it through the lens of Nog, a Ferengi, was all the better for it. After that point, every episode with Aron in it was an episode to pay attention to.

Here's the scene I mentioned:
