Sens. Chris Murphy, Richard Blumenthal say House must begin impeachment proceedings against Trump

Sens. Chris Murphy and Richard Blumenthal called Tuesday on the House of Representatives to begin impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump, citing recent reports of a whistleblowers complaint that Trump had pressured Ukranian officials to investigate the son of political rival Joe Biden.
It is now my belief that the House of Representatives must begin an impeachment inquiry into the presidents corrupt efforts to press a foreign nation into the service of his reelection campaign, Murphy said in a written statement. As part of the inquiry, the House should take steps to assure that the pending whistleblower complaint be presented to Congress in full, and an investigation must take place into the full extent of the Trump administrations demands that the Ukrainian government become agents of the presidents political agenda. If, as it appears Mr. Trump has already acknowledged, the president violated his oath of office by using the constitutional powers entrusted to him to try to destroy a political rival, then the president must be impeached.
Blumenthal said he had reached his decision with sadness, but also anger, after the president has repeatedly broken laws and betrayed his oath of office. This illegal misuse of the presidency for private benefit is an impeachable act."
His seeking corrupt assistance from a foreign leader for personal political gain crosses the line, Blumenthal said in a written statement, issued two hours after Murphys. His most recent lawbreaking follows three years of contemptuous disregard for the Constitution. The Congress must demand accountability. The values and norms of our democracy are precious and vulnerable and they depend on people fighting for them in times of adversity. At this moment, the threat to the rule of law and our democracy has reached a new height and requires all of us to step forward.

I think we'll see an announcement from Speaker Pelosi late today.
