Nancy Pelosi Announces Formal Impeachment Inquiry of Trump.
Source: nyt
Faced with new allegations against President Trump and administration stonewalling, Democrats have ended months of caution.
Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced on Tuesday that the House would begin a formal impeachment inquiry of President Trump, opening a fresh chapter of confrontation in response to startling allegations that the president sought to enlist a foreign power for his own political gain.
The president must be held acccountable, she said after emerging from a meeting of House Democrats in the basement of the Capitol. No one is above the law.
The announcement was a stunning development that unfolded after months of caution by House Democrats, who have been divided over using the ultimate remedy to address what they have called flagrant misconduct by the president.
In this case, with a growing number of Democrats who had resisted the move now demanding it, Ms. Pelosi has become convinced that Mr. Trumps reported actions, and his administrations refusal to share details about the matter with Congress, have left the House no alternative outside of impeachment. The inquiry has the potential to reshape Mr. Trumps presidency and to cleave an already divided nation only a year before he plans to stand for re-election.

(13,582 posts)That having the House Speaker publicly announce impeachment proceedings is a Big Deal. I am gladdened with the Senates unanimous demand to see the full complaint. What changed today? Maybe nothing, maybe everything.

Those traitors are complicit in enabling his lawless actions and have without a doubt committed criminal acts themselves which demand their removal followed by prosecution in relevant courts both State and Federal.

(1,654 posts)Regarding impeachment hearings: In the past several months I have heard callers to WR radio hint at it. Regarding people "messing" with Trump, one asked the host, When do we have to do something? The host replied, Not now, but you will know when.

(127,271 posts)and in this case, it begins with 6 different House Committees. Whatever they come up with will be provided to the Judiciary Committee to compile what will eventually be Articles of Impeachment (as part of their own hearings), and those Articles selected will be voted on by the Judiciary Committee and if passed, will then go to the full House for an Impeachment.
Remember that the "Watergate Hearings" were NOT the Nixon "Impeachment Hearings". Once the Watergate investigation was completed (after the infamous "hearings" then Articles of Impeachment were compiled from that to begin the actual Impeachment Hearings... but then Nixon resigned before that process really got going.

(1,996 posts)is that Trump could have been impeached for running the concentration camps. I don't think the legal mechanics are there, even though they maybe should be. If anyone can point me to whether Trump could be impeached for human rights violations, please let me know. I don't think the US gov't has the legal framework to do much about human rights violations, monkeying with foreign aid to kneecap an opponent is another story. The GOP bots LARPing as leftists are saying that only by going after Biden would the Democratic congress impeach him, the would not impeach him on other stuff. I would like to crush the narrative if I can.

(275 posts)Does initiating an official impeachment investigation actually give the House any more power to force cooperation from the administration than it has had up to this point?
If so, what form(s) does that increase power take?
If not, what is to stop the administration from continuing to ignore subpoenas and claim executive privilege for every person that has even heard of the White House, much less worked in it?
How is this investigation different from the other ongoing ones?
I really don't know and am interested in hearing from the more knowledgeable denizens here.
Thanks.
