First House Republican backs Trump impeachment inquiry

Source: CBS News

GOP Congressman Mark Amodei on Friday became the first House Republican to support the inquiry into whether President Trump should be impeached based on the president's interactions with Ukraine.

"Let's put it through the process and see what happens," Amodei said in a phone call with reporters, according to The Nevada Independent.

"I'm a big fan of oversight, so let's let the committees get to work and see where it goes," Amodei continued. "Using government agencies to, if it's proven, to put your finger on the scale of an election, I don't think that's right, If it turns out that it's something along those lines, then there's a problem."

Bravo! Let's hope he is the first of many, though I remain skeptical whether many in the GOP will find their spines and do the right thing to protect our democracy--unless they perceive doing so will save their seats.

Imagine being stuck on the Trump Train when you know you should have gotten off a few stations earlier!

There will be more Republicans moving away from Trump. Self-preservation will beat out Republican tribalism.

Additionally, Trump has burned many bridges on his own side. There's not a lot of love for Trump among many Republicans. Just fear.

These are interesting times we live in.
