Release of Trump-Putin Calls Needs Mutual Consent, Russia Says
Source: Bloomberg
The Kremlin said Russia would have to give consent before transcripts of presidential phone calls between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin could be published, after Democrats indicated that they would seek the records as part of an impeachment inquiry.
Its possible only by mutual agreement of the parties, Putins spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, told reporters on a conference call Monday. In general, diplomatic practice doesnt provide for such publications. If there are any signals from the Americans, then well discuss it.

(146,254 posts)That is what Putin would like, but there's nothing in our laws that would require it. Transcript of discussions by our President are a matter of public historical record. Now whether they can be subpoenaed successfully is another matter, one which would probably involve the Supreme Court, but Putin would have no input into that.

(1,242 posts)Installed a US president who has started stacking the supreme court. I would think that Putin has a say on who appears on the nomination short lists, and as with the modern impeachment proceedings, the court gets ultimate say on what evidence the white house must fork over. Hell, that court appointed a president before the votes were legally counted with the justification that W. Bush would suffer irreparable damages, as if Gore didn't have the exact same stakes.
I hear you though, brother - Putin should not legally have any input. Not disagreeing one bit.

(9,104 posts)I wonder if there's something on them? Oh...like him colluding/ordering Trump to take actions to the benefit of Russia over the U.S....
Maybe he's afraid what's in those calls would move the United States to definitively, and unequivocally, designate Russia as an enemy state.

As for Putin, he's gotten good value on his investment, don't you think? America's reputation in tatters, old alliances broken, our word as a nation worthless, every lousy white nationalist empowered to come out from under their rocks -- the damage done to us by Trump's presidency is incalculable.

(17,175 posts)... "Diplomatic practice" is whatever you want it to be at the time, and it is hysterical that Mr Putin, of all people, would invoke it about Mr Trump, of all people.

Consent my ass.
If the same recordings prove his claims of non-involvement, we would already be reading the transcripts.
