Lindsey Graham Plans to Introduce Resolution Condemning Illegitimate House Impeachment: Should Be Dismissed in Senate Without a Trial
By Reed Richardson Oct 22nd, 2019, 10:31 pm
Republican Senator Lindsey Graham railed against the House Democrats impeachment inquiry, calling it illegitimate and unconstitutional and said he plans to introduce a Senate resolution that would argue any articles of impeachment should be dismissed in the Senate without a trial.
Unveiling his plans to Sean Hannity, Graham attacked what he said was an impeachment process that was trampling on President Donald Trumps rights.
We cannot allow future presidents and this president to be impeached based on an inquiry in the House thats never been voted upon that does not allow the president to confront the witnesses against him, to call witnesses on his behalf, and cross-examine people who are accusing him of misdeeds, Graham said, previewing the language of his forthcoming Senate resolution. All Im asking is give Donald Trump the same rights as [Presidents] Richard Nixon and Bill Clinton had when it comes to impeachment. Im insisting that Donald Trump be given the same rights that any American has if youre giving a parking ticket to confront the witnesses against you: cant be based on hearsay. And heres the point of the resolution: Any impeachment vote based on this process, to me, is illegitimate, is unconstitutional, and should be dismissed in the Senate without a trial.
This new procedural tactic by Graham follows on the heels of his unabashed defense of Trumps incendiary lynching analogy earlier on Tuesday and, notably, comes amid a new Daily Beast report that the Trump White House is frustrated with the lack of assertive pushback from Senator Republicans, in particular the South Carolina senator.

(4,341 posts)It is no coincidence that Graham was saying the truth about the creature for months (unfit for office, corrupt, etc.) and after one game of Golf he made a full turn to become his pet.
I think Graham learned a lot of what the creature and his master Putin have on him and he is now trying to save his skin. Someone needs to begin investigations to find out what the creature and Putin have on Graham.

(26,295 posts)decides to investigate and only if an official is impeached in the House does the Senate then get a say.
Unless Lindsey knows something we do not like say that there is even more evidence that has not been revealed yet that would insure a conviction in the Senate?
Which raises a further question of how he would personally know unless someone informed him that the Democrats have it or someone in the Trump administration let him know that its all true.

This idiot will, too! No Senator worth his salt will sign that! Mitch is already crumbling.
Lock him up.
(6,933 posts)... something sounding like the House does the inquiry and the Senate holds the trial??
It seems like every day he flipflops from rational to crazy again...

(1,812 posts)Graham was quoted just a few hours ago saying he would be troubled if evidence was produced that Dear Leader had engaged in a quid pro quo with the government of Ukraine for the benefit of Dear Leader's Campaign... ... .He would become "very concerned" if the saga went beyond merely beyond one telephone call ..We now know it went way beyond just one telephone call . There are reams of testimony , texts and contemporaneous notes made by key players proving Dear Leader's leadership in an extortion racket : No dirt on the Biden' s means no military aid for Ukraine ...Now Graham is seeking Senate dismissal without Trial ... What happened to his concern ? ... .The age old tactic of sleazy lawyers is being employed by Graham : His client is guilty as Hell . ... Everyone knows it . Graham doesn't give a shit Just Cry about the unfair process ...Graham is either compromised or crazy .

(62,444 posts)He served in the Air Force in Germany in the 80's. He could have been having otherwise legal sex off-base with adult men, but for the fact that he was in the military. The Russians have always been keen to pick up on that sort of thing for the purpose of compromising US personnel.
Maybe he did what they asked at the time, thought it was over, and now the leverage is not about the sex, but whatever it was he did for them.

(7,006 posts)And Make this Process Formal. It is time to put witnesses on the record in open hearings. It is time to hold Trump and his symphonic followers feet to the fire. It is time to tear it down if we must to preserve our Democracy. It is time to do whatever means necessary to rid America of Trump! Period.

(9,481 posts)By denying Trump "Due Process" in the Senate. The MSM needs to more.forcefully point out the difference between the imprachment inquiry and a impeachment trial and that the Senate does the trial, not the inquiry.

(24,703 posts)or did you skip that section and went straight to the part to say, to hell with the CONSTITUTION, you only have your set of rules to work with.............................and since you don't "want" to face "due process" here let me show you what it means, it wasn't really hard to do, took just a little initiative ..............all you have to do to refresh your memory, is type in "proper procedure for due process" and presto..........................it really is a good reminder......................... ..........................

(9,073 posts)Such historical comparisons are inexact and dont line up with the current circumstances, however. For example, the impeachment of Clinton came after a years-long Independent Counsel investigation and the only witness to testify during the 1998 House impeachment was Ken Starr, the Independent Counsel. And Nixon was never formally impeached, as three articles of impeachment were passed by the House Judiciary Committee after a long investigation into the Watergate scandal, but he resigned before the full House could ever vote on them.
