Exclusive: FBI official under investigation after allegedly altering document in 2016 Russia probe
Source: CNN
An FBI official is under criminal investigation after allegedly altering a document related to 2016 surveillance of a Trump campaign adviser, several people briefed on the matter told CNN.
The possibility of a substantive change to an investigative document is likely to fuel accusations from President Donald Trump and his allies that the FBI committed wrongdoing in its investigation of connections between Russian election meddling and the Trump campaign.
The finding is expected to be part of Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz's review of the FBI's effort to obtain warrants under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act on Carter Page, a former Trump campaign aide. Horowitz will release the report next month.

It's unknown how significant a role the altered document played in the FBI's investigation of Page and whether the FISA warrant would have been approved without the document. The alterations were significant enough to have shifted the document's meaning and came up during a part of Horowitz's FISA review where details were classified, according to the sources.

Anybody think that will happen soon?

(9,167 posts)I'd say the intelligence agencies have been extremely reserved, nonpartisan, and professional considering the shit that orange fuckstain has been slinging at them.
...but no, Barr must find a document in which the i wasn't dotted in order to advance Trump's conspiracy theories. He'll gladly ruin some career FBI agent just to satisfy his insane boss.

(338 posts)Democrats just spent months reconstructing events spanning more than a year, and despite White House stonewalling they have produced many witnesses and mountains of evidence that Trump engaged in a bribery or extortion scheme to feather his own political fate while harming the national security of Ukraine. But Republicans insist it all amounts to nothing. And they plan to make very short work of impeachment in the Senate, sending the message that this is much ado about nothing.
But if the Barr association is able to produce just ONE document it claims was improperly altered by one FBI agent in the FBI inquiry into Russian meddling, then: Hillary did it, the DNC was in league with Russia, the news media were in the tank against the GOP and everyone should be locked up. At least that's where this little revelation is likely to be pushed by the wingnuts even if the revelation turns out to be inconsequential or not a real thing at all.
Now, if one agent indeed altered one document, deal with it. But conflating it into something more sweeping without further evidence is unwarranted. So, the Barr BQ gang will do what Repubs usually do -- spend years and tens of millions of dollars on serial hearings, accusing Democrats of spending years and tens of millions of dollars. Project much?
The Barr inquiry will never be over until he and his minions manufacture a result to trumpy's liking.

(8,203 posts)RW/RT bs...I tried to chase the story last night and stupidly clicked on a site, that I locked up my computer..had to unplug and remove battery just to clear..was frozen..and then CNN updates this morning..
So, what do we do - wait a day, or week or month for the truth to bubble to the top..there is so much weighing down the truth..it is going to take us awhile to dig out from under..
I am usually very careful, but, because of the explosive information (now disinformation)..in my former life, as a researcher for info at work, my instinct, trust but verify, to validate that story, got me in trouble and locked up computer..

(13,582 posts)CNN really screwed the pooch on this one. On top of that they added to the disinformation and chaos the GOP depends on. I guess we need to go back to the tried and true two sources rule of journalism.
A good lesson for us all as we move into what will no doubt be - an active Russian disinformation campaign designed to re-elect the lunatic in the White House.
