Senate Republican predicts impeachment trial ends by State of the Union
Source: The Hill
Sen. Roy Blunt (Mo.), a member of GOP leadership, said on Tuesday that he expects President Trump's impeachment trial will be over by a State of the Union speech scheduled for early February. Blunt, the No. 4 Senate Republican, told KSSZ, a Missouri radio station, that the expected that the Senate trial would be "pretty predictable" and happen "quickly."
"My guess is we'll be done with this by the time the president comes," Blunt said.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) has formally invited Trump to deliver the State of the Union on Feb. 4, a day after the Iowa caucus.
"I think we should have had enough time for both the House to fairly present its view of why the president should be impeached and for the president ... to have a chance for his lawyers to explain why he shouldn't be, and then we'll have that vote and move on," Blunt added on Tuesday.

(12,586 posts)only that the president's (sic) lawyers will "explain why he shouldn't be [convicted]." If Pelosi's strategy fails and the McConnell gets his way and holds a sham trial, Fat Donnie will use the entire SOTU -- which can go as long as he wants -- to yell that he's been exonerated from the impeachment, and therefore it was invalid and shouldn't be included in his biography.
The SOTU is going to be a theater of the absurd no matter what happens in the Senate. I may save the YouTube video for posterity.

(1,242 posts)I think Speaker Pelosi knew when she set the invite date how it would all schedule out. On the talk shows it is apparent that conservatives are freaked out. They only opine about that it will be bad for Dems. If they really thought that, they would be talking about plans for the future of increased Senate majority and flipping the house. If the majority of voters were in favor of legitimately impeaching a president for his/her actions, the president's party/defenders would not benefit in upcoming elections, never mind that if a president commits crimes against the country, and voters rewarded it, it would only produce incentive for presidential criminal behavior. Their experimental impeachment stunt against Clinton backfired on them, or they would have tried pulling the same crap on Obama when they censored Eric Holder, which was also a sham that didn't benefit them at all either.

And to get back to your BS that the "trial" will be over before the 4th of February................so do you think along with #Moscow Mitch and you and the ones listed above that presently sit in the senate.......................that you / them and your enabling #Moscow Mitch leader of the chamber have already compromised yourselves with your remarks that the "trial" is already "predictable"......................
How would you know that....................maybe you and everyone else that is saying your BS.............should recuse yourselves from the hearing of the House grand jury testimony that is bringing your treasonous orange asshole down ...................your party keeps forgetting one little important fact..................your dealing with a House Speaker who believes in the Constitution and is a woman...........................and she is driving your treasonous "guy" bat shit crazy.........and she is driving you crazy and your party crazy for exposing you and your party for what they are.................it definitely is not protecting the Constitution or the Rule of Law.......its protecting a fucking traitor.........
