US. Iran step back from brink; Trump says Iran stands down

Source: AP

By ZEKE MILLER and DEB RIECHMANN

WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. and Iran stepped back from the brink of possible war Wednesday, as President Donald Trump indicated he would not respond militarily after no one was harmed in Iran’s missile strike on two Iraqi bases housing U.S. troops.

Speaking from the White House, Trump seemed intent on deescalating the crisis, which reached a new height after he authorized the targeted killing last week of Gen. Qassem Soleimani, the head of Iran’s elite Quds Force. Iran retaliated overnight with its most direct assault on America since the 1979 seizing of the U.S. Embassy in Tehran, firing more than a dozen missiles from its territory at the installations in Iraq.

Trump credited an early warning system “that worked very well” for the fact that no Americans or Iraqis were killed. He added that Americans should be “extremely grateful and happy” with the outcome.

Trump, facing one of the greatest tests of his presidency, said Wednesday that Iran appeared to be “standing down” and said the U.S. response would be to put in place new economic sanctions “until Iran changes its behavior.”

According to this writer, Iranians were getting tired of their leaders’ promises and incompetence. Then Trump murdered one of their top leaders and reunited the country against the US. Future attacks may be more subtle than last night’s attack, but I think we have not seen the end of this fiasco.

unplanned drone attack on Iraqi airport, Soleimani reported killed, Iran promises retribution, and bombs an isolated U.S. and says that's their retribution, Iraq votes to evict Americans from their country. Why do I doubt that Soleimani was actually killed? Why do I have doubts that this whole chain of events wan't staged by a bunch of despots to help trump get attention away from his criminal treason?

This latest struggle is part of long-term battle within Middle East. Nothing new is staged. It all started in 1997 capture of Washington's embassy in Tehran that led to the start of Reagan's corrupt era. Since then, the conflict shifted to one between Iran and Israel. Peace was made with Iran through agreement between them and Obama for the first time. However, the Israel supporters and donors weren't satisfied with peace-making and pushed for long-term boycotting of Iran to destroy their economy.

I wonder what they hell their plan is if they get WWIII? Complete with chemical and nuclear weapons that destroy the planet? Maybe they'll get in their spacecraft and go to the next planet they want to destroy.
