Trump Administration Says Obamacare Lawsuit Can Wait Until After the Election

The Department of Justice told the Supreme Court that the case did not represent an emergency that would require a speedy ruling.

The Trump administration came into office with its top legislative priority clear: Repeal the Affordable Care Act. It failed. Then, when a group of Republican states tried to throw out Obamacare through a lawsuit, the administration agreed that a key part of the law was unconstitutional.
But now that defenders of the law have asked the Supreme Court to settle the case quickly, the presidents lawyers say they are in no particular hurry. The case, which seeks to invalidate the entire health care law, can wait for the lower courts to consider certain questions more carefully, they said in a filing to the Supreme Court on Friday. There is no present, real-world emergency, the brief says, that would require the court to rush the cases progress.
The case argues that changes made to the Affordable Care Act in 2017 make its requirement that most Americans obtain health insurance unconstitutional and that the provision is so essential to the health care law that the rest of it should be invalidated as well.
The case could have major political implications because the results sought by the Republican states and the Trump administration would cause substantial disruptions. According to estimates from the Urban Institute, around 20 million more Americans would become uninsured because of the elimination of the laws coverage expansions and protections for Americans with pre-existing health conditions.

This shows Republicans know just how devastating their lawsuit will be for Americans if it succeeds.
Thats why we must continue to fight to uphold protections for Americans with pre-existing conditions.

(22,166 posts)republicans) dearly and it will cost them again severely in 2020 November. And they should suffer. Threatening the health care of millions of Americans for no good reason. Nor have they offered any reasonable alternatives nor solutions to the ACA pitfalls that could be improved upon. Republicans will suffer everywhere in the upcoming elections and I guarantee you that rump is going to make their demise even worse with his stupid antics.

(9,426 posts)people at the rallies that his healthcare plan would be so much better and cheaper than Obamacare. At the rate he and his useless "kids" spend taxpayer money, we will be BROKE soon. We need to know how much the Secret Service spends on this group of grifters. Mnuchin is fighting to keep the costs hidden. WHY? This family is a luxury we can not afford.

(6,212 posts)It's called "We Don't Care".
It's implementation is implied in their words and actions. They don't have to actually make it a law, all they have to do is destroy what is already there.
And...Presto! It's automatically implemented.
They love this plan, especially since the Republicans in government and their families are immune to it.
They have excellent health coverage.
Why would they care about anyone else?
