US Virgin Islands sues Jeffrey Epstein estate, alleges sex trafficking

Jeffrey Epstein's estate was sued on Wednesday by the US Virgin Islands, which claimed that the late financier sexually abused and trafficked in dozens of young women and girls on his private Caribbean island.

The complaint expands the scope of alleged misconduct by Epstein, who died on August 10 at age 66 by hanging himself in a Manhattan jail cell.

Epstein had previously pleaded not guilty to charges of abusing women and girls between 2002 and 2005.

The Virgin Islands said his misconduct was much more extensive, continuing to as recently as 2018 and involving girls as young as 11 or 12.

The lawsuit seeks to confiscate hundreds of millions of dollars from Jeffrey Epstein’s estate in the Virgin Islands.

A lawsuit filed by prosecutors in the Virgin Islands says multimillionaire sex offender Jeffrey Epstein used two private islands in the US territory to engage in a nearly two-decade conspiracy to traffic and abuse girls.

At one point, the suit filed Wednesday alleges, Epstein and associates organised a search party to catch a 15-year-old victim trying to swim away, and kept her passport to keep her captive.

The lawsuit seeks to confiscate hundreds of millions of dollars from Epstein’s estate in the Virgin Islands, including private islands Little St James and Great St James, which the suit values at 86 million dollars (£66 million).
