Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell did not know that President Donald Trump's administration had a copy of an explosive manuscript by ex-National Security Adviser John Bolton, a spokesman said.
And Kentucky's longtime senator, who has said he's in "total coordination" with the White House on the Trump impeachment trial, reportedly isn't happy.
The New York Times reported Sunday that in his upcoming book, Bolton says Trump told him he did not want to release military aid to Ukraine until that country helped with investigations that could damage Democrats, including former Vice President Joe Biden.
Bolton's lawyer, Charles J. Cooper, told the Times he provided a copy of the book to the Trump administration on Dec. 30 to be reviewed for classified information.
A McConnell spokesman told The Courier Journal on Monday that the Senate majority leader "did not have any advance notice" that the National Security Council reportedly had possessed a copy of Bolton's manuscript for weeks...................................
CNN's John King said Monday that McConnell is the "leader in the middle of something incredibly delicate who does not like to be blindsided" and that he has questions for the White House.

(49,043 posts)We (Democrats) knew that tRump had committed a crime / impeachable offence: Abuse of Government Power for Personal Gain.
Republicons knew tRump committed a crime but their cover-up consists mainly of stonewalling, refusal of logic connecting events and facts, and the usual obfuscation and lying. They are blindsided by the disintegration of their cover-up.
But having continued so far down the path they chose it is now painful and difficult to go forward or to reverse.

(15,290 posts)Apparently just before or just after he took the NSC job, Bolton negotiated an agreement that gave the WH/NSC 30 days to review any manuscript(s) he submits for national security redactions only. Those 30 days are up on Thursday.

(15,888 posts)A scorpion, being a very poor swimmer, asked a turtle to carry him on his back across a river. "Are you mad?" exclaimed the turtle. "You'll sting me while I'm swimming and I'll drown."
"My dear turtle," laughed the scorpion, "if I were to sting you, you would drown and I would go down with you, and drown as well. Now where is the logic in that?"
The turtle thought this over, and saw the logic of the scorpion's statement. "You're right!" cried the turtle. "Hop on!" The scorpion climbed aboard and halfway across the river the scorpion gave the turtle a mighty sting. As they both sank to the bottom, the turtle resignedly said:
"Do you mind if I ask you something? You said there'd be no logic in your stinging me. Why did you do it?"
"It has nothing to do with logic," the drowning scorpion sadly replied. "It's just my character."

(5,727 posts)I've only ever seen two expressions on that...face(?); unbridled gigglesome glee that he's going to do something openly corrupt, and that bug-eyed, lips-snapped-shut cheek-puff that suggests he's soiled himself, pictured in the OP. Is that last one his angry look?

(2,227 posts)That means that the turd now has a copy. If they gave the manuscript back to Bolton, YOU KNOW they made a copy.
The logical next step for the turd is to threaten Bolton, telling him that IF HE TESTIFIES the manuscript will be uploaded onto the internet, where EVERYONE CAN GET A COPY FOR FREE. The turd doesn't give a damn about anything, including copyright/trademark rights.
Bye Bye millions in book sales. Why pay for something you can get for free? All he'll have is the advance, which isn't paltry, but nothing compared to actual profits from sales.
If that is the scenario that plays out, Bolton will probably sing like Cohen did.
Moscow Mitch SHOULD be livid. Hopefully livid enough to have an aneurysm. A deadly one.
(Sorry, I just searched for my last fuck for Moscow Mitch, but it had already been given out.)

(23,156 posts)Surely he's not that stupid? Did he listen to anything said, or is it just he's totally ok with everything done, just pissed that team drumpf is so stupid and venal they hid it from the person most responsible to clear his name? My bet is B all the way. Treachery to the country for Russia's benefit is de riguer for him, part of the bribery package, but treachery to himself - wow, the turtle must not be as bright as everyone thinks.
