Walker a possible witness in John Doe investigation
Source: Wis State Journal
Gov. Scott Walker may be asked to testify against one of his former aides regarding her alleged illegal campaigning while working for then Milwaukee County Executive Walker in 2010.
The trial is part of a two-year John Doe investigation aimed at exposing illegal campaigning by staffers within the Milwaukee County Executives office during Walkers tenure.
Several of Walkers former staffers and appointees, including former Deputy Chief of Staff Kelly Rindfleisch, have faced misconduct charges because of the investigation, but Walker himself has not been charged.
Rindfleisch faces four felony charges for political campaigning while working for Walker. Her actions violate state law forbidding state employees from campaigning while in a public building or holding a government job.
Other state officials connected to Walker including Cullen Werwie, Walkers current spokesperson, and Keith Gilkes, Walkers campaign manager in 2010, are also on the 35-person witness list produced by Assistant District Attorney Bruce Landgraf.
Rindfleischs trail is scheduled to begin Oct. 15.

MILWAUKEE -- Prosecutors intend to call Gov. Scott Walker as a witness in the criminal trial of his former county aide Kelly Rindfleisch.

Rindfleischs defense lawyer, Franklyn Gimbel, confirmed that Walker was on the prosecution list of witnesses subpoenaed by the state. The final pretrial hearing for the case is scheduled Monday before Milwaukee County Judge David Hansher. Gimbel said he will again ask the court to adjourn the trial until a later date.
Gimbel twice unsuccessfully appealed motions denied by Hansher that would have resulted in dismissal of charges or limited evidence against his client. The trial is slated to begin Oct. 15.

A number of others prominent in the Walker administration are scheduled to appear as witnesses for the prosecution. They include Brett Davis, state Medicaid director; Michael Huebsch, a former legislator who is now Walkers Administration secretary; Cullen Werwie, Walkers current spokesman; Keith Gilkes, one of Walkers top campaign advisers and former chief of staff; and James Villa, who worked on Walkers county staff.

BREAKING: MAJOR REVELATIONS IN JOHN DOE PROBE - Scott Walker Mistakenly Admits He is Under Investigation
Following reports that Scott Walkers criminal defense fund grew by $100,000 in May, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel is today reporting major revelations in the John Doe criminal corruption probe, including Scott Walkers mistaken admission that he is under investigation.
--Scott Walker mistakenly admits that he is a target in the John Doe criminal corruption probe
Walker, in a rare moment of candor, stated to reporters that he would not use the criminal defense fund to pay for the legal defenses of his aides, who have been charged with crimes ranging from child enticement, to theft from veterans and the families of fallen soldiers, to misuse of taxpayer resources to illegally campaign for Scott Walker, and would instead use the funds for himself or his campaign.

(385 posts)unless Walker put her up to it?
This is likely a move to squeeze Rindfleisch to get her to plea bargain - OR to get Walker to fall into a trap of perjury or obstruction of justice or just make him "plead the 5th" (always looks good when politicians do that) in court.

(1,379 posts)I believe she was actually campaigning for Brett Davis (another so called witness in this case) when he was running for office of lt gov against Rebecca Kleifisch but I don't believe there is any proof that she was campaigning for Walker.

(385 posts)Information detailed in the criminal complaint reveals that Rindfleisch was tasked with doing policy work for Walkers campaign and took her orders and received her assignments from Tim Russell, a longtime political adviser to Scott Walker.
