San Diego County just shut down restaurants, bars, nonelective surgeries & gatherings of 50+

Last edited Tue Mar 17, 2020, 04:19 PM - Edit history (3)

Source: San Diego County press conference - listening now

Restaurants can offer only curbside takeout, drive-through or deliveries

Hospitals are cancelling elective and non-emergency surgeries

Wineries, bars, must all shut down.

They are setting up a fund to help impacted local business.

This is really turning into hell.

San Diego County now has 50 known cases but probably a lot more.

Some of these cases include healthcare workers, students, quarantined individuals, a sailor on a navy ship (USS Boxer), an employee in a senior center, to name a few.

Update: I've added a link to an article with a lot more details and additional restrictions including quarantine of people traveling in from certain nations. Will post the directive from the county as soon as it's online.

You need to change this to "elective" and non-emergency surgeries. Totally freaked me out! Native Mar 2020 #3

I'm in North County, and my 55 and older gated community just went on lockdown. We can go in and out and have visitors, but all social functions are done until further notice. You can't go into any of the facilities. You can't even go into the office. You have to call or email.

This should have happened three weeks ago. I am sure people will be sick because it didn't happen three weeks ago. I wouldn't be surprised if some died because it didn't happen three weeks ago.

The board of directors had to vote on this. All but one are Republicans. I am shocked. Pigs must be flying somewhere.

I'm actually sick, so all of my neighbors have been shopping for me and picking up my mail. I'm one of the youngsters in here, in my early sixties. Everyone else is in their 70s, 80s and 90s. And I'm the one who is sick. Go figure!

If my neighbors flake out on me at some point, I'll remember this offer.

You and your family stay safe and healthy!

And you please do the same. I'll PM you my cell in case you want/need to reach out in these times. And worst case, we can always meet up for a beer or coffee when this all passes since we're neighbors!

They also closed the office and informed us that we had to pay rent via the rent portal, which last time I used it, charges $32 for payment transactions.
Not going to be easy for families and the elderly on fixed incomes...
My office just went to alternating day telework. Today, I'm having to try to get work done around lap cats and young grandkids on spring break that have basically nowhere to burn off energy.

Went to go get breakfast this morning - dining room in the hotel (which normally offers a breakfast buffet) was completely closed.

Went to McDonalds, I could get food there but the dining room was totally shut down and taped off so nobody could sit there.

This shit is getting real and scary.

while I was on the way, my husband called me and asked me not to go,because Dallas is closing restaurants and other places with more than 50 people.
Over here in FW, our mayor has requested that we only get take out or delivery food instead of dining in.

SO I called my friends and told them I wasn't coming per his request and they tried real hard to convince me I should come. I finally said, "Look, he has weak lungs and he deserved for me to consider that" He does not ask me to stay home from something very often.

I did stop at the local Indian market and stock up on lentils, picked up some sudafed at the CVS next door to the Indian store, and went to Big Lots where I didn't find TP but did find some pasta sauce, spaghetti and a couple of other things, went next door to them and got my cats a new jar of weed and then hit the Braum's for milk. (for those who don't live in North Texas/Oklahoma, Braum's is an ice cream/dairy store/hamburger spot) All the milk, cream, half/half, buttermilk, comes from their own farm and the herd now produces milk with more digestible proteins making it less prone to trigger lactose intolerance. Very fresh products, and really great tasting milk.
