Acting counterterrorism center head fired, according to former U.S. officials

By Ellen Nakashima
March 19, 2020 at 2:16 p.m. EDT

The acting director of the National Counterterrorism Center was fired Wednesday night in what insiders fear is a purge by the Trump administration of career professionals at an organization set up after 9/11 to protect the nation from attacks, according to two former U.S. officials familiar with the matter.

Russell E. Travers, a highly-regarded career professional with more than 40 years of government service, was fired by acting director of national intelligence Richard Grenell, according to one former official, who like others interviewed for this story spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss a sensitive matter.

Travers, who took up the acting position last August, has been resistant to pressure to make personnel cuts at the center, which has been undergoing a review of its mission and effectiveness.

Also removed at NCTC was Travers’s acting deputy, Peter W. Hall, who is said to be returning to the National Security Agency, according to the two individuals, who like others interviewed for this story spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss a sensitive matter.

The surprise move came hours after President Trump announced his intent to nominate a Pentagon special operations and counterterrorism official Christopher Miller to head the NCTC. The removals have shocked Travers’s colleagues who are upset at the treatment of someone so well-regarded, according to the two former officials.

Evidence would point to the fact that his actions are all to Putin's personal benefit.

Trump and so many others in their administration are nothing more than Russian assets and agents for Putin.....

A simple Trojan Horse strategy.....The the horse (Trump) in the gates and then open the horse up.......

Putin gave Trump a copy of Animal Farm, and told him to use it as his guideline.....(Putin knew that 1984 was by far to difficult for Trump to understand)

On January 20, 2021, I want President Joe Biden to kick every Trump appointee to the curb. Bill Barr needs to be the first to go. Then President Joe needs to hire back the career experts Trump has fired. Then ICE needs to be totally overhauled with new leadership—and on and on. Trump has destroyed the legitimacy of every federal agency.

Trump and the republicans have weakened us so that we are set up for a series of crippling blows that we won't recover from. In our weakened state, we are exposed for an all-out assault on the systems and utilities we all depend on. We are being left naked, unprotected, and defenseless.

The head of counterterrorism and his deputy have been fired, and the department is being destroyed.

This is by design. The water has been chummed. The sharks are moving in for their feeding frenzy. We are the bait.

And Putin is gloating at his success at bringing down the U.S. without ever firing a missile or any other weapon.

The Republican Party needs to acknowledge that Trump and The Republican Senators have had full all out complicity and have condoned everything that they all have done to destroy the United States.

Their COUP is within millimeters of being completed. The Republicans are soon to introduce their new country:

THE UNITED CORPORATE STATES OF AMERICA. ALSO KNOWN AS: A CORPORATE CONTROLLED FASCIST TYRANNY......

We haven't yet begun to see the end of the depravity and destructive acts that the Republicans have brought down on the citizens of the United States of America......

If you look at the overall picture, I feel there is no way we are digging ourselves out of this Charlie Foxtrot.......It went past the point of no return with the Senate acquitting Trump.
