Congressional stalemate deepens as Pelosi, Schumer say they won't budge on coronavirus funding deman

Source: Washington Post

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer said Monday that they won’t agree to the Trump administration’s insistence on more money for small business loans unless their demands are met for additional funding for hospitals, state and local governments and food stamp recipients.

But Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said the Democrats’ demands should wait for another day, while the small business program needs more money now. Mnuchin last week requested urgent congressional action to approve an additional $250 billion to supplement a $350 billion forgivable loan program for small businesses ...

The back-and-forth between Mnuchin and the Democratic leaders on Monday followed a Saturday statement from congressional GOP leaders in which they, too, rejected the Democrats’ demands and showed no interest in negotiating.

Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Schumer (D-N.Y.) also rejected suggestions from President Trump that the country could reopen quickly, saying “there is still not enough testing available to realistically allow that to happen.”

Don't let him, this is even more critical for our democracy than hospital funding and that is super critical too.

Give No Quarter to these asshats.

"Oh, but Americans are going to be hurt"! Why the fuck do we expect Democrats to be the ONLY party that gives a fuck if Americans get hurt??

"Oh, you can't demand funding for the states, hospitals and middle class... you'll hurt the corporations providing gas for the chambers!"

They know we do not want anyone to suffer if it can be avoided, and rely on this to obtain concession that benefit their constituencies, without providing too much for ours. We cannot allow this to work any longer, but resolve to see actual harm done if we do not get what our own constituencies need.

Small business is a particularly sensitive Republican constituency, and Madame Speaker is quite rise to squeeze it till Mnuchin and McConnell give in.
