Appeals court backs ruling allowing abortion in Oklahoma during coronavirus pandemic

Source: The Hill

BY ARIS FOLLEY - 04/13/20 10:42 PM EDT

The 10th Circuit Court of Appeals has upheld a lower court’s ruling blocking an executive orMoer signed by Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt (R) last month that sought to temporarily ban abortion services in the state during the coronavirus pandemic.

The decision on Monday lets stand District Judge Charles Goodwin’s move earlier this month to grant a temporary restraining order against the state’s ban on abortion.

Stitt issued an executive order last month that mandated residents and medical providers in the state postpone “elective surgeries, minor medical procedures, and non-emergency dental procedures” so that more medical supplies could be reserved for healthcare professionals working to combat the coronavirus outbreak.

His office clarified in a release days later that abortion care would also be affected by the order, saying “any type of abortion services as defined in 63 O.S. § 1-730(A)(1) which are not a medical emergency as defined in 63 O.S. § 1-738.1 or otherwise necessary to prevent serious health risks to the unborn child’s mother are included in that executive order."

abortions.

..............A number of states across the country have in recent weeks sought to classify abortions as nonessential procedures, which have been put on pause to conserve protective equipment for healthcare workers on the frontline of the coronavirus pandemic.

A district judge in Alabama ruled on Sunday that abortions must be allowed to continue in the state. In Texas, reproductive rights groups have sought a ruling from the U.S. Supreme Court after a federal appeals court sided with the state in restricting the procedure.

Fucking repugs trying to turn this into a fascist nation using the excuse of the pandemic to destroy the working class and poor and the rich will get all of our money. They view this as a golden opportunity that they have been waiting for since the 1920's. They thought they had it with HItler, but that busted so now they are trying again with PUtin pulling the strings and helping them destroy our powerful liberal democracy.
