Barack Obama to endorse Joe Biden for president Tuesday morning

Source: CNBC

Former President Barack Obama plans to endorse Joe Biden, his two-term vice president, on Tuesday morning in his bid for the White House in 2020, NBC News reported.

The endorsement will come only after Biden emerged as the last candidate left standing in the Democratic primary to take on President Donald Trump in November. Sen. Bernie Sanders, a self-described democratic socialist from Vermont and Biden’s final opponent, dropped out last week and endorsed his former rival on Monday.

Obama’s decision to steer largely clear of the primary fight raised eyebrows among some political watchers, who questioned why the 44th president did not immediately offer his endorsement when Biden launched his campaign.

Biden said at that time that he asked Obama “not to endorse” him. “Whoever wins this nomination should win it on their own merit,” the former vice president said.

I think most people would have been very surprised if he did. It wouldn't be the typical thing to do, and the last thing we needed would have been a repeat of accusations of the "thumb on the scale" for the presumed most likely nominee.

I don't think too many eyebrows were actually raised, except perhaps among those that wanted to use a too-early Obama endorsement against Biden

Except this time, I hope a big blue wave gives us the Senate and downticket races since President Biden is going to need all the support he can get.

I think its verboten to criticize a past president, but he can certainly heap high praise on Biden. It will drive tRump completely around the bend to publicly compare the two administrations.

Biden and Obama-- still a great team!

His daughter Barbara was seen at fundraisers for Hillary in 2016. His dad & Bill Clinton are friends. And we've seen the good relationship the Bushes have w/ the Obamas. President Carter will throw his support behind Biden as well i'm sure. So bottom line all the past POTUSes will be supporting Biden. The Idiot? Not so much.

Obama endorses Biden

Former President Obama endorsed Joe Biden for president on Tuesday, giving his former vice president a powerful surrogate and fundraiser as he heads into the general election against President Trump.

In a video from his home, Obama said that Biden is the best leader for the country during a health and economic crisis brought on by the coronavirus pandemic.

“If there’s one thing we’ve learned as a country from moments of great crisis, it’s that the spirit of looking out for one another can’t be restricted to our homes or our work places or our neighborhoods or houses of worship, it also has to be reflected in our national government,” Obama said.

“The kind of leadership that’s guided by knowledge and experience, honesty and humility, empathy and grace. That kind of leadership doesn’t just belong in our state capitols and legislatures, it belongs in the White House, and that’s why I’m so proud to endorse Joe Biden for president of the United States.”

Obama’s endorsement is not a surprise: He and Biden have a close friendship that has endured beyond their time in the White House together.

The former president had decided to stay on the sidelines during the competitive Democratic primary, which at one point featured 24 White House hopefuls, in an effort to not give the appearance that he was putting his thumb on the scale for any one candidate.........................
