Backing Trump, U.S. Republicans call for WHO chief to resign

Source: msn.com

By Patricia Zengerle 3 hrs ago

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Republican U.S. lawmakers called on President Donald Trump on Thursday to withhold payments to the World Health Organization until its director general resigns, backing Trump's criticism of the U.N. agency's handling of the coronavirus pandemic.

Seventeen of Trump's fellow Republicans on the House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee wrote a letter to Trump supporting his announcement this week that he was withholding funding for the WHO, and saying he should condition the resumption of contributions on the resignation of Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

Trump drew immediately condemnation on Tuesday from many world leaders and health experts, as well as U.S. Democrats, by saying he would halt U.S. funding of the Geneva-based WHO over its handling of the coronavirus pandemic.

They said the WHO may need reorganization but that Trump should not try to force it in the middle of a crisis that has killed more than 138,000 people globally and devastated world economies.

The U.S. president, who has reacted angrily to criticism of his own handling of the virus outbreak, said the WHO had promoted China's "disinformation" about the coronavirus and been too lenient with Beijing in the early weeks of the crisis................................

Even trump did not call for him to resign as far as I know. But, coward Trump probably demanded the Repugs do his dirty work for me. (just guessing).

The backlash against pulling funding from WHO is a political nightmare for the GOP.

By prompting Trump to "condition the resumption of contributions on the resignation of Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus."

IOW, Trump's ego is massaged by getting the Director fired, he'll reinstate the funding - and of course claim this was his plan all along.

They've sacrificed a once viable, albeit ridiculously hypocritical, party to the altar of Trump. It appears as if it's going to take a wholesale defeat and destruction of that party in order to satisfy them. If they can read (and truthfully, I'm not sure many can) they could see that the approval ratings of republicans is falling off the charts. I'm not complaining, mind you, but this murder suicide pact they've devised for each other seems quite odd.

Have at it, morons. I'll be glad to see the republican party die a gruesome death. It should only take a generation or so to revive anything close to what they once were before Trump barged in and took over. Everything Donald Trump touches truly does die.

The one thing we've always had going for us is our opponents are incredibly dumb. We don't always take advantage of that fact, but it is true. To a person, this is probably the dumbest American political movement since the Know Nothings. When keep your fucking mouth shut and try to ride this thing out would be the least hazardous political move to make, they double down on stupid. Amazing. Even when I know there's no level of depravity and idiocy this collection of hacks won't stoop to, they still manage to amaze me.

The only resource I use to update myself on this plague is WHO status reports. I don't respect or trust any person connected to Washington DC, because the spokespeople are all too willing to either whore themselves or kiss traitor's ass.

My friend texted today that she read it is okay to stop wiping off groceries. I'll isolate and wipe groceries until I get a vaccine. The 'experts' who are willing to listen to traitor before they dispense useless and wrong information can shut their pie holes.

As bad as it was during Vietnam, this is far worse because we have to fight on so many fronts. But, I am determined to drag this old carcass to the polls in November.

You DON'T cut their funding and then DEMAND the resignation of their director.

You can't have it both ways. If you're not going to support them, you DON'T get to decide who serves and who doesn't.
