LEADER OF NORTH CAROLINA PROTESTS AGAINST STAY-AT-HOME TESTS POSITIVE FOR CORONAVIRUS

Source: Newsweek

BY AILA SLISCO ON 4/27/20 AT 8:41 PM EDT

FIRST AMENDMENT
A leader of a Facebook group demanding that North Carolina allow businesses to reopen amid the Covid-19 pandemic has tested positive for coronavirus but is still insisting that Governor Roy Cooper's stay-at-home order be rescinded, saying it violates her right to freedom of religion.

Audrey Whitlock is one of the leaders of the ReOpen NC Facebook group, which has close to 70,000 online members and has organized weekly in-person rallies demanding that the state reopen. Whitlock described herself as an "asymptomatic Covid-19 patient" in a since-deleted post to the group on Sunday morning. Regardless of her potential to infect others, she said that abiding by the governor's orders meant her rights were being violated.

"The reality is that modern society has not been able to eradicate contagious viruses. A typical public health quarantine would occur in a medical facility," Whitlock wrote, according to WNCN. "I have been told not to participate in public or private accommodations as requested by the government, and therefore denied my 1st amendment right of freedom of religion."

Cooper recently extended his stay-at-home order to be effective through May 8. Whitlock's post said that "political affiliation[s] all become irrelevant when you are fighting for freedom" but concluded with a call to "remove Roy Cooper from office in November."

Audrey Whitlock: Reopen North Carolina Protest Leader Says She Has Coronavirus

Audrey Whitlock, a leader of the "Reopen North Carolina" protest group, has tested positive for the COVID-19 coronavirus. Whitlock is an administrator for the ReOpen NC Facebook page where she has helped organize multiple protests in Raleigh, N.C.

The protest group has been campaigning to reopen the state and rollback measures that have been put in place to slow down the spread of the coronavirus. The restrictions the group is fighting against include social distancing regulations and the Stay At Home order that was issued by North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper.

Whitlock announced the news of her positive test on the Reopen NC Facebook page. According to her post, which has since been deleted, Whitlock was asymptomatic, and she finished a 14-day quarantine on April 26.

Whitlock believes she had COVID-19 in January, and she was administered an antibody test and a coronavirus test in April, CBS 17 reported. She tested positive for the coronavirus, but her antibody test came back negative.

COVID-19Anti-lockdown protest organizer reveals she was diagnosed with coronavirusMegan Hamilton

. . .

In her post from this Sunday, Audrey Whitlock, leader of the group ReOpen NC, said she was ending her two-week quarantine and described herself as an "asymptomatic COVID-19 positive patient." Whitlock is one of the administrators of the organization's Facebook page, ReOpen NC. The group has used the page to organize two protests in Raleigh in an attempt to pressure Governor Roy Cooper to lift the stay-at-home order, CBS17 reports.

In her post, which has apparently been removed, Whitlock complained about the restrictions, saying that being forced to quarantine is a violation of her First Amendment rights, as well as her 5th and 14th Amendment rights.

. . .

"It has been insinuated by others that if I go out, I could be arrested for denying a quarantine order," she added. She claimed that such an arrest would violate the Americans With Disabilities Act.

ReOpen NC organizers say protests will be held every Tuesday until the restrictions are lifted. Cooper has since extended the quarantine until May 8.

and then professing it was her right to "go out and infect others", which is effectively what she is saying

If she did test positive, she should not be so confident that she has nothing to be concerned about regarding being asymptomatic, since there are disturbing reports coming forth about unforeseen issues with some of those infected

out for any kind of social program. All that "socialism" they claim to hate is what many of them actually live on in the first place. They are incredibly willfully stupid. It cannot be stressed enough how stupid they really are. Source: First hand experience having to deal with them. It's awful here.

that means she plans to go out and expose people, because she had said she planned to attend a rally this Tuesday or next Tuesday (I can't remember which) despite the order to stay home since testing positive. She is supposed to follow certain protocols if she goes anywhere, like a requirement to wear a mask, but we will see what she does.

These people are getting away with completely ignoring governors. Governors aren't doing anything to them. How are they getting permits to protest WITH guns? That is another question I have. If liberals wanted to protest, the cops would have full riot gear and be ready to shoot us on sight if we so much as look at them wrong. Conservatives can come armed to the nines and cops are relaxed and jovial with them. This is one fucked up country.

Her rights are the only thing that matters to her. If she truly is infected (skepticism here), she is risking other people’s lives and she doesn’t care. So very Christian of her! She may be lying about having the virus so she can “show” that it’s just a minor illness and no reason for people to stay home.

These people are all about their privilege, which has nothing to do with religious freedom. If you have to worship in public, your faith is pretty flimsy.

I always learned that rights also came with responsibilities. These people demand their rights and demand no responsibility for anything—just like their president. We have a serious problem in this country that we’ll be dealing with for decades because we have such a huge population of selfish people whose idea of success is getting whatever they want whenever they want, no matter how many people they hurt in the process. And they hide behind the clock of religious freedom.

that belonged to the 'Hell no, I won't stay home' crowd, or are part of the 'Jesus will protect us!' mob, or 'Take this medicine, Lysol, or bleach, rump said it was okay!' group of people, or something similar, that are now DEAD.

In a way, the CV epidemic has revealed some pretty serious weaknesses in the US response to the CV epidemic. (1) rump, you couldn't gotten a worse person than this idiot (drink bleach!); (2) our elderly ... it's almost seems criminal that the powers that be didn't recognize the severity and impact of the CV on our most fragile citizens. I seriously think that some serious efforts be put into whether or not there was some complicity or plain outright incompetence in trusting the care of our senior citizens in the nursing home industry. (3) our vaunted economic system, what else can one say?

The list of failures goes on.

Look at all of the holes and gaps that are popping up everywhere? Next time someone rants and raves about socialism and so forth, I'll put forth that after only several months in the CV epidemic, all of these 'capitalist' systems have failed, and it seems like those that didn't need any help are still helping themselves to the spoils all while not even needing it. So much for our vaunted economic system preached endlessly by those on the right side. It took a massive bail out to save them (socialism!).

It's kind of refreshing in a way (sad mostly), that the idiots are dying. It's the survival of the fittest, and ironically enough, the loudmouths are the ones dying and getting sick and the rest of us, using our common sense are still living. Perhaps this is the extinction long touted? That idiots will die in droves and the rest of us will still live?
