Judge asks for investigation of McConnell's role in creating federal bench vacancy
Source: Courier-Journal
LOUISVILLE, Ky. Just days before the Senate Judiciary Committee is set to consider the nomination of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnells protégé to a federal appeals court, the court's chief judge requested an investigation of McConnell's role in creating the vacancy.
Demand Justice, a progressive judicial watchdog group, requested a postponement of Wednesdays scheduled hearing before the Senate Judiciary on the nomination of Judge Justin Walker of Louisville to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia.
The chief judge of that court issued a public order May 1 asking U.S. Chief Justice John Roberts to transfer to another circuit Demand Justices allegation that a judge on the court may have been persuaded to retire to allow another judge to take his seat.

(35,332 posts)Demand Justice asked the DC circuit court to investigate, but that would be a conflict of interest. Squashing it would be inappropriate, the only course left is to ask that an outside judge be appointed for the investigation that Demand Justice asked for.
The postponement of the hearing may be honestly because the group can't be ready. Or it may just be political. There's a chance that the hearing will simply lead to dismissal--in which case the Walker confirmation process would occur without anybody saying "however, the process is currently being investigated by the courts".

(70,539 posts)We are part of an ongoing coup. Trump is an evil, grifting, con man w/mental problems but
McConnell is all about the power and how to keep it and use it for very un-American ends.
Always remember that McConnell knew about Russia/Vlad helping rig the election for Trump
and the GOP and helped to cover that up. Both Mitch and Bill Barr are cancers on America.

(5,801 posts)any legislation Dems pass to try to improve the lives of the American people. In effect, negate the entire Legislative branch *if cons deem it necessary.*
That's why federal judgeships are particularly important.

(26,305 posts)I mean look at the facts.
They embraced the racist Dixiecrats back in the 60s in order to gain more power as well as the whole Nixon thing.
Then you have the whole arrangement they made to have US hostages held longer in Iran in order to use it to win an election followed by a Republican that lied to get us in a war with Iraq and now we have Trump and them stacking the courts.

(5,801 posts)and more intrinsically unpopular, their tactics got slimier and slimier.
When your party's raison d'etre boils down to "run the country to shovel money upwards" it's the only way they can "win"--lie to and fool "their voters" and keep the rest from voting whenever possible.
