President Trump's physician on Monday confirmed that the president is now taking the anti-malaria drug hydroxychloroquine despite not having the coronavirus, saying he and Trump concluded "the potential benefit from treatment outweighed the relative risks."
In a 114-word letter released by the White House hours after Trump announced he was taking the medication, presidential physician Sean Conley wrote that he discussed the pros and cons of taking the drug with Trump after one of his personal valets tested positive for the coronavirus.
But the letter contained no specifics on when Trump started taking the drug or what his dosage is.
"In consultation with our inter-agency partners and subject matter experts around the country, I continue to monitor the myriad studies investigating potential COVID-19 therapies, and I anticipate employing the same shared medical decision making based on the evidence at hand in the future," Conley wrote.......................

I think the President of USA should not put himself in this risky position. And the doc should be sanctioned.

(405 posts)is very misleading. It doesn't specifically say Trump was prescribed hydroxychloroquine or that he is actually taking it. It sounds like they are trying to cover for him because they know he lied about it.

(22,174 posts)pay possibly higher prices for their populations in fighting malaria, while others, thinking that this drug is a panacea for avoiding CV infections (when not even fully vetted or proven so) will grab global supplies causing serious disruptions in anti-malarial efforts (for an unproven purpose for this drug)?
Can we say that rump and his doctor(s) have failed 'medical ethics 101' totally?
This drug hasn't undergone the comprehensive testing that approving a drug for other purposes requires. I'm sure that perhaps the process since the drug is a known drug will be shorter in duration, but the criteria for testing and whether the drug is a success or not are totally different.
This sounds all screwed up.
