Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson noted that most voters 'across the political spectrum want the option to vote by mail.'
Every voter in Michigan will automatically receive an absentee ballot application for elections to be held in August and November, Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson announced on Tuesday, the Detroit Free Press reported.
"By mailing applications, we have ensured that no Michigander has to choose between their health and their right to vote. Voting by mail is easy, convenient, safe, and secure, and every voter in Michigan has the right to do it," Benson, a Democrat, said in a statement.
Benson also noted that most voters "across the political spectrum want the option to vote by mail," a statement supported by recent polls.
After Michigan voters sign the application, they can either mail it to their local election clerk or take a photo of it and email it in. Voters can also download the absentee ballot application at Michigan.gov/vote.

(41 posts)Longtime Trump ally and fundraiser Louis DeJoy will serve as the new postmaster general for the US Postal Service, the USPS Board of Governors announced Wednesday.

(2,227 posts)He wants his DeJoy over the USPS like he has his Barr over the DOJ.
What could possibly go wrong?

(2,586 posts)This shd be federal policy -- every registered voter in every state shd be sent a mail-in ballot AUTOMATICALLY and encouraged to vote by mail.
In person voting shd be retained, including plenty of early voting, w/voters asked to bring their mail-in ballots w/them to the polls if they have them. If not, they wd sign an affidavit that they haven't voted by mail, and of course a record of their in person appearance at the polls wd be there and checked against the record of all those ballots received by mail. It is a bit cumbersome but would radically increase turnout, and put less onus on the voters
this also shd be pushed for (obviously only wd pass when Dems control White House & both Houses of Congress -- which hopefully they wd after an HONEST election this November) as part of a 'voter bill of rights' that shd be in the Dem platform

(27,843 posts)This would not have happened if Gretchen Whitmer and a Democratic AG had not been elected in 2018. Snyder was term-limited out, but under a Republican, the voter suppression that occurred in 2016 would have continued.
Interesting to see what will happen when people in Detroit and Flint don't have all the obstacles like broken voting machines to contend with.

(15,557 posts)This is what happens when people get out the vote like we did here in Michigan in the midterms. It was our own little blue wave and what a difference it has made already!
By the way, that guy in the picture is old enough to have voted via mail even prior to the new absentee rules.
