Virginia officer charged with 3 counts of misdemeanor assault and battery
The Fairfax County Police Department released body camera video which shows an officer deploying his stun gun on a black man.
A white Virginia cop has been charged with assault after police and prosecutors reviewed body camera footage that appeared to show him using a stun gun on a disoriented black man.
The Fairfax County police chief said he was "disgusted" after viewing the footage, which he said showed Officer Tyler Timberlake deploy an electronic control weapon and "escalate further" the situation.
"The video also erodes the public's trust of police officers, not only in Fairfax County but throughout this world," Col. Edwin C. Roessler Jr. said Saturday at a press briefing on the incident. "These acts are unacceptable."
. . .
While the man is walking on the street, the video appeared to show Timberlake approach and deploy a stun gun multiple times and put his knees on the man's back. The victim repeatedly shouts "No!" and says "I can't breathe" several times after being handcuffed.

(296 posts)Employers (including Police) have personnel procedures they have to follow leading to dismissal. We may think something like this should result in immediate dismissal, that may not be possible depending on how the procedures/protocol are written. It may require an investigation, may require giving the employee an opportunity to defend himself. Its not always cut and dried.

I saw an episode a couple years ago. Some southern US police were in a foot pursuit after a black suspect in a wooded area. One of the police running said to another officer, "We're going to get that boy." or "We're gonna get your boy."
