Trump administration reverses Obama-era hunting ban in Alaska

Source: axios

The National Park Service published new rules on Tuesday that will enable the resumption of hunting and trapping methods including baiting bear traps, killing grizzly bear cubs and wolf pups in Alaska's national preserves.

The big picture: The new policy reverses Obama administration regulations. Wildlife welfare groups have called the hunting practices that will be permitted starting July 9 "cruel." Hunting advocates and Alaskan state leaders criticized the Obama-era ban for eroding state's rights and encroaching on their livelihoods, the New York Times notes. Tribal groups opposed the previous rules for threatening "long sustainable management practices" and have welcomed the Trump administration's changes.

The ban had Obama's name on it, so #Cruel #Trump hit on it. damn

in their dens.

We have to hold tight until November because Trump is going to attempt to obliterate the environment in order to break our spirits. If you've followed the last two weeks, you've seen him roll back three major protections and the godawful Pebble Mine in Alaska is months away from possible approval.

Please support organizations that fight these reversals, some of which are illegal, in court.

.... about the deficit when Democrats are in power.

That's the cycle. Increase the deficit when repugs are in charge so that they have GOP talking points to tarnish Democrats. But, but the deficits are out of control we HAVE to CUT spending. Let's start with Social Security.

And repeat it until it has sunk in. So that when Democrats return, and it starts up again, they can say..."see, told ya so"

It works out so perfect for R's as long as no one knows how they operate. They get their cake and eat it too. Big tax cuts for themselves, most are in high brackets, and their wealthy donors. Add onto the debt and deficit, while in office doing so. And then that giant black hole of debt is thrown back at Democrats once they are in office as "fiscal mismanagement".

The other side of the sword is that many of the progressive policies that were promised in a Democratic campaign, become impossible because all the money and effort is put towards digging the country out of the financial mess. And using new taxes (which usually means simply going back to the tax rates before the last R admin) come with a huge political price, so they are forced to entertain cuts to social spending or at least no increased spending on social programs. Happened with Clinton and Obama too. And that works out perfect because the economy is then rolling along nicely when the Rethugs get back in.

Rinse and repeat

Me either. I must admit it is discouraging to see the opportunities they overlook. We need to be more aggressive with our long-range messaging.

They (repugs) will attack Social Security reforms (read as privatization) the moment the next Democrat holds the WH.

"Victor Joseph, chair of the Tanana Chiefs Conference, said the group representing 42 tribes in the Interior supports the rollback. The 2015 rule was implemented without “adequate tribal consultation," he said in a statement sent by the park service.

“The previous limitations enacted in 2015 threatened our way of life and our centuries-long sustainable management practices," he said in the statement."

Trump sprinkles much of his acts with a few goodies the locals will drool over.

Trump's changes, which will allow hunters to kill browns bears and their cubs at bait stations, includes killing which would be allowed for the first time in the history of the federal preserves.

Why haven't Victor Joseph and the other Tanana Chiefs spoken out about this? It is designed purely for the recreational killing of bears, much like his sons' hunting quests entail. It is not designed for subsistence hunting and should not be allowed.

The Tanana Chiefs have been conned by Trump, which is Trump's greatest talent. He has done this for his casinos, his university, on and on.

How can you shoot something like this? What is the economic value? The pelt would be too small to do anything with, and I don't think anybody eats wolves as an appetizer.
