'ICUs are full, patients are dying': 3 Alabama counties see largest jump in weekly cases
Source: ABC News
Montgomery County, Alabama, home to the state's capital, is quickly emerging as a hot spot in the states battle against COVID-19, according to a leading health expert.
With nearly 3,000 people diagnosed with the coronavirus, Montgomery County now has more cases than any other county in the state, Dr. Don Williamson, the head of the Alabama State Hospital Association, told ABC News Tuesday.
But Montgomery County isn't the only one in danger.
Montgomery, Jefferson and Tuscaloosa Counties are all reporting their largest increases in weekly cases due to outbreaks in the workplace, long-term care facilities and large gatherings, according to a FEMA memo distributed internally on Tuesday.

In Montgomery County, "ICUs are full, patients are dying, and some of the staff that are normally working are out ill," Williamson said.

(15,978 posts)I mean Montgomery is pretty liberal for Mississippi and has a vibrant culture there. Although theyve had 790 deaths in total in the state. They had 5 deaths today alone.

(17,989 posts)By Alabama standards, they're liberal. I have a sister-in-law who lives there. But that's compared to the white suburbs of Birmingham and rural Alabama. By northeast, Chicago or west coast standards, they and Huntsville are anything but liberal. Depends on what you're comparing them to.

Hopefully the states will continue to reimpose restrictions as necessary, the Pig isn't going to do anything but simultaneously call it hoax and proclaim victory over the hoax.

Tuesdays 3,450 new cases for the state were on par with Mondays case number. California is now up to 159,046 total cases.
In Los Angeles County, where retail stores, restaurants, museums and gyms have been allowed to resume business, 1,293 new cases were confirmed. The county has 75,084 total cases and 2,959 total deaths.
As data indicate that California has yet to contain the first wave of the virus, several Bay Area counties are pressing on with reopening plans that include resuming indoor dining and salon business.

(12,221 posts)In the past, they were successful with this: i.e., "Hillary's email."
But in the last few years, they are falling flat on their faces.
I believe, in the case of COVID-19, the GOP were hoping to make the red states look strong by not wearing masks, not shutting down or opening right away and using this in November against Democratic governors, etc.
Instead, once again, it is backfiring on them.

makes me want to vomit. Truly.
I think there's something wrong with me - that I cannot fathom their cavalier attitude.

(14,838 posts)It isn't the bumbling dumbfucks. They will get the best care made available to them on a priority basis.
The people who are dying are likely the elderly, black, and poor. And that is just fine by the states leadership. They actually applaud it.
This is a feature, not a bug.

FREDERICKSBURG, Texas (KXAN) A popular tourist destination for Texans is making a comeback as families start venturing out more during the COVID-19 pandemic.
County Judge Mark Stroeher said theres been heavy foot traffic along the popular Fredericksburg Main Street shopping strip over the last few weekends, almost like pre-COVID-19 days. Its good news for the local economy which took a big hit when stores were forced to close, but theres a downside.
The crowds are so heavy and whats really disturbing is if you look around downtown, very few of the visitors are wearing masks or practicing social distancing, said Stroeher.
Some visitors are taking notice, and posting about it on social media.
