Trump aides debate future size and look of signature rallies after Tulsa debacle

Source: CNN

-snip-

By Monday morning, a debate had commenced over how to proceed — and whether the massive rallies that are the President's political stock-in-trade are feasible or wise as he seeks to turn around a flagging reelection effort.

-snip-

Few people around Trump believe rallies will be eliminated altogether. But the empty seats and vacant overflow lot in Tulsa were an indication that their formula needs rethinking amid a continuing pandemic and an altered political landscape.

There are discussions about finding outdoor venues where supporters might feel safer convening, the people familiar said. One campaign source suggested holding more airplane hangar rallies, a common feature of Trump's last campaign that allowed him to visit a location without ever leaving the airport.

Other officials acknowledged that Tulsa was a sign even Trump's supporters remain wary of large crowds as coronavirus continues to spread, a reality that may force his campaign to book smaller venues for greatly reduced audiences.

to see how many jethros come down with covfefe-19 after Saturday’s shit show.

On edit: my autocorrect tried to change ‘covfefe’ to ‘confederate’. Some coincidence, huh?

He wants the huge numbers, wants to infect masses, and if he waits and the infections go way up in Tulsa, even fewer people will come out. If he gives in to sanity and holds the rallies outdoors, he's killing one of his favorite arguments that the virus will just melt away in the summer heat and is even now in the process of disappearing into thin air.

So really, it's a race between getting huge numbers by making the rallies more safe outdoors and providing good photo ops with less deaths or way smaller crowds, but with a lot higher deaths. What's a poor murderous dictator wannabe gonna do?

it seemed a bit odd to have a big rally in a safe red state. It's probably meant to be a confidence booster but would infect his own supporters.

They don’t want someone forcing them to cancel or wear masks. So no democratic governors, mayors, etc.

have to start booking smaller venues so there won't be the embarrassing optics of a third-filled arena.

They'll have to consider venues like the Armory in Minneapolis, Credit Union 1 Arena in Chicago, Charlotte Coliseum in N.C.

I mean, it's a step up from playing State Fair venues, but not by much.
